My 75th year on a train the same age - This was an amazing experience it was well organised and the friendly staff were so helpful. Getting at the station early gave us the chance to coffee & breakfast, listening to music being played on the piano was so relaxing. What a great day we had

A great adventure! - A fantastic morning aboard the Mary Valley Rattler. So evocative of days past, with the smell of steam and soot, the historic carriages were comfortable and charming, the infectiously passionate cabin crew were engaging, the commentary was informative and entertaining (and not intrusive) and the scenery was delightful. All good fun! Lovely to see families and little ones delighting in the journey too. The general store and cafe and the halfway mark were brilliant too! Loved it! 😊

Beautiful views, gorgeous train, brilliantly hosted by Lee - Everything about this experience was perfect. The train was just stunning, the country we steamed through idyllic and our carriage's host, Lee, equally hilarious, charming, informative and a lovely bloke.
The Mary Valley Rattler is one of the most iconic railways in Queensland and absolutely rightly so.
The journey starts in Gympie station and runs for a total of approximately three hours (return) up through the valley to Amamoor. On the way you see some absolutely breathtaking views of the valley, farmland, countryside and past old gold mining areas and run down old stations.
And all the time your host makes sure you are comfortable, makes sure you get a wealth of information about the things you are passing, stops for a chat about life, offers great recommendations for food places, and, in the case of the brilliant Lee, take the mickey out of the Brits from near Windsor! 🤣
At Amamoor you get off the train to watch it on the turntable before making its return journey. During this time you can grab a bite to eat, a drink, look at some local produce and crafts in a little collection of stalls and listen to some live music.
It was a lovely way to spend the morning and many, many thanks to Lee for his humour and for his recommendation of the Imbil Bakery for lunch!

Such fun and nostalgic. - Experiencing this old train trip is a must in the Gympie area. It is so nostalgic and special riding on the old steam train. From booking through to boarding, then the train ride itself, the process is seamless. The staff are so friendly and obliging. Mostly run by volunteers who are fantastic. Our train carriage attendants (Lee and John) were so passionate about what they do, competent and welcoming. We were aboard for 3 hours with a halfway stop at Amamoor where there was live music, refreshments and food available to purchase.

Great trip through Mary Valley in a locomotive - The trip was great. From the start when we were received at the Old Gympie Station, we had a fabulous fresh breakfast to the stop in Amamoor and Daigo, where we tasted Cheadle and wines. The onboard volunteers were great and fun in explaining to us the history of the area and the train.

Lovey time on the Mary Valley Rattler - The carriages are well restored and perfectly clean.
The carriage attendants were lovely, helpful and not pesky.
We weather was clear and I just love the steam train smell and the nostalgia that goes with steam trains.
The turnaround spot was lovely and the General store a trip back in time - selling mixed bags of lolly’s!
The day was well priced.

Magical Journey Back In Time - We were beyond pleased with our experience! We booked in for the pets on board session. The entire crew was overly welcoming & made the experience so much more authentic for us. The whole experience felt like we stepped back to a simpler time. We can't wait to book in again!

Pets on Board for Eva’s 3rd birthday - A great morning on the Mary Rattler Steam Train to Amamoor return with 4 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs for our 3 hour trip.
Enjoyed breakfast at Rusty Rails cafe before boarding which was delicious.
We had half of the guards carriage which was sectioned off from other dog section.
Comfortable and volunteers were very friendly.
The dogs loved it!
We could leave our bags in our carriage when we disembarked which was handy.
Would recommend as an activity to do with kids.

Fun journey - Our group of 13 aged from 4 up to 87 all had a most enjoyable time on the Mary Valley Rattler. We appreciated the enthusiasm of the staff and volunteers, it was great to see the community involved at Amamoor and Dagun to make this train ride fun.
