A Nostalgic Voyage: Exploring Lan Ha Bay and Viet Hai Village
Drawn by the allure of Lan Ha Bay, I embarked on a journey that promised to be as enchanting as the road trips of my youth. Join me as I recount my unforgettable experience exploring Viet Hai Village and the breathtaking landscapes of Vietnam.
Setting Sail on Lan Ha Bay
As a retired teacher with a penchant for road trips across the vast American landscape, I have always been drawn to the allure of the open road and the stories that unfold along the way. This time, however, my journey took me across the ocean to the enchanting waters of Lan Ha Bay in Vietnam. My husband and I, both seasoned travelers, were eager to experience the Lan Ha Bay Cruise and explore the quaint Viet Hai Village nestled on Cat Ba Island.
The moment we boarded the luxurious Au Co ship, I was reminded of the many road trips we took in our trusty RV, exploring the hidden gems of small-town America. The ship, with its spacious private cabins and warm reception, felt like a floating home away from home. As we set sail, the crew welcomed us with a safety briefing and a delightful four-course meal, reminiscent of the hearty meals we enjoyed at roadside diners during our travels.
Our first stop was a serene bay where we had the opportunity to kayak and visit an oyster farm. The experience was akin to discovering a charming small town off the beaten path, where every corner held a new story waiting to be told. As we paddled through the calm waters, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia for the countless lakes and rivers we had explored back home.
Discovering Viet Hai Village
The next day, we ventured into Viet Hai Village, a peaceful enclave that seemed frozen in time. Cycling through the village, I was transported back to the days of my youth, when my family and I would embark on long road trips through the Midwest, stopping in towns where time seemed to stand still. The village’s lush scenery and the simplicity of life reminded me of the small farming communities we often encountered on our journeys.
We visited the Bhaya Organic Farm, where the locals’ dedication to sustainable farming practices was evident in every corner. It was heartening to see the community’s commitment to preserving their way of life, much like the small towns in America that strive to maintain their unique identities amidst a rapidly changing world.
As we continued our exploration, we stopped at the Bhaya Cafe, a quaint spot that offered a taste of local flavors. The experience was reminiscent of the mom-and-pop diners we frequented on our road trips, where the food was always served with a side of genuine hospitality.
A Journey Through Time
Our final day on the cruise took us to the awe-inspiring Hang Sung Sot cave, the largest stalactite cave in Halong Bay. As we wandered through the cavernous space, I was reminded of the natural wonders we had encountered on our travels across America, from the majestic Grand Canyon to the mysterious Carlsbad Caverns.
The cave’s intricate formations and the stories they held were a testament to the passage of time, much like the historic landmarks we had visited on our road trips. Our guide, Kevin, expertly led us through the cave, sharing tales of its history and significance, much like the local historians we had met along our journeys.
As we returned to the ship for a sumptuous breakfast, I reflected on the parallels between this journey and the countless road trips that had shaped my life. The Lan Ha Bay Cruise was not just an exploration of a new destination, but a reminder of the beauty and wonder that can be found in every corner of the world, whether on the open road or the open sea.
