Amazing experience! - My first time travelling to Vietnam and Ha Long Bay and we couldn’t have had a better crew to take care of us on our stay on the boat! Ruby was phenomenal, offering exceptional service always with a smile and so friendly too! Andrew the tour manager was bubbly and fun and commanded the room when we addressed everyone! Very very fun!

Dream cruise on Lan Ha Bay - The welcome, availability and kindness of David and his team are exceptional. Always with the little care so that we live an unforgettable experience. Cruise on a human-sized boat (maximum 40 passengers) in the middle of a dream landscape. Beautiful rooms with a balcony and a bathtub overlooking Lan Ha Bay. Magic! Very good meals and buffets served on board. A moment suspended. I recommend 100%. Thank you David.

Lots of good but also less good... - We stayed two days on the Amanda Luxury Cruises. Getting there: From Hanoi we were picked up in the old town at 7:30. The old bus has then stopped 6 times at other hotels (about 1 hr. Duration). The bus was a VIP bus, but not very comfortable. Very old and loud. A stop is made after about 2h at a motorway service station. What was very bad was the 2. Stop at a bead shop about 30 minutes before arrival with a 30 minute wait! After 4-5 hours you have arrived at a not particularly beautiful marina, from which you are tendered to the ship, because the boat is about 30 minutes away in the lagoon. That's what all these agencies do that offer multi-day tours. And that's a good thing. (see below). You arrive on the ship at about 13:00-13:30 and can move into the room. The trip: Basically, you drive the same lap every day (about 5-7sm estimated). The departure is at 13:00 with two stops. The next morning at 10:00 am you are back at the exit bay to clear in new guests. Guests who have booked two/three days make excursions until about 16:00. This is then two/three times the same round. If you don't feel like going on excursions, you can stay on board and hang anchor at the starting bay with all other ships. This can get very loud and smell like exhaust gases because this is where the utilities/disposers operate. Basically, however, it is better to anchor here than in the ugly harbour. The ship, the service and the food: The ship has come of age. The rooms are very clean and a bit dusty. The Wi-Fi is virtually nonexistent or poor. You'd rather receive it from other ships than your own. 🤪 But Handy Detox isn't bad either;-) The service on the boat is excellent! Super nice staff. The food is good. In the morning and at noon there is always the same buffet food. Breakfast does not include a complimentary drink, such as coffee or tea. Dinner is an a la card menu, alternating, which you eat on deck with the approximately 50 fellow passengers. The drinks are relatively expensive. There is a happy hour (Buy 2, get 1 free). I recommend for drinks on the balcony to buy them through the lake nomads. These are women doing their business with small boats along the side. Top!!! Conclusion: Would we do the tour again? We booked well in advance through Booking.com. We wouldn't do that anymore, as this is way too expensive. Better to book on site in Hanoi (about 30-50% cheaper). Plus, it costs 3% Negotiable Service Charge for credit card payments extra! Booking two days is good because of the weather; we had bad weather on the first day and great weather on the second day! But one day is enough. Under no circumstances would we recommend three days. Our big concern is the pollution of the water in the bay - and we were part of it.:-( It drives a lot of plastic and oil in and on the water. There you don't feel like swimming or paddling.... Would we come back? Probably not because of the pollution of the water - and if it is, it is only for one night.

Not sure I would recommend? - Overall the experience was okay, the boat manger Lee was nice and helpful, the staff friendly. The boat was nice, slightly tired but we had read some previous reviews and knew to expect it. Late in the evening, the night before we were due to be picked up, we got a text saying our room was leaking and therefore could we be moved to the Amanda Premiere Cruise instead of Amanda Luxury Cruise, with a promise that it was bigger and better. We had a look and weren’t convinced that it was nicer, it looked old. We said we weren’t happy with this and somehow they managed to sort our room out in time. Travel to and from the boat makes it feel not totally worth it for 1 night , we were picked up at 7.45am ish from Hanoi old quarter and didn’t get onto the boat until about 1pm ish. The next day you have to be checked out by about 9.30 (for brunch) and back off the boat at 10.30. We then didn’t get to our hotel in Hanoi until about 4pm. So over the course of the 1 night 2 day, you’re travelling (including the buses/ waiting at service stations/ switching to a small boat/ waiting at the dock efc) for about 11 hours. Some people who were doing the 2 night stay said it was more worth it, however it comes a late a higher price. The rooms were nice and clean and spacious, I’d advise getting your bath pictures asap when you arrive as eventually the hot water runs out. Unfortunately we did wake up to a dead mouse on our bathroom floor, but that doesn’t seem like it’s common. The cruise manager got it out for us and got us some coconut coffees as a sorry. The activities are pretty full on! We did the kayaking on the first day but decided to skip the squid fishing in the evening as we wanted to enjoy the room. In the morning activities are from 6.15-8.30am (tai Chi/ kayaking/ fishing) so if you wanted to try everything you wouldn’t have a lot of time to enjoy your room, which is probably the best part. The food on the most part was fine, classic hotel style buffet for lunch and brunch. For dinner you’re giving a mostly western style set dinner, which was the worst meal. It was okay, but my suggestion to improve would be to keep it to buffet style food, their Vietnamese cruising was by the best option and not having that at dinner was a bit of a let down. Overall I don’t regret my tour, the sights are beautiful and our room was lovely (bar the mouse lol), but I wouldn’t rush to recommend it to friends either.

Nice Cruise but they pressure you into a good review. - While the cruise is very wonderful, and the food and activities are great, what I absolutely do not appreciate is that the staff ask you to write a review, and mention their name even if you had minimal interaction with them, standing next to you until you finish writing the review. I deleted the review I previously wrote now because it would’ve been very awkward not writing a review in front of them while they’re staring into your phone. I’m ok with them kindly asking you to review it, but the kind of pressure they applied gave it a very sour taste.

Not as advertised but not awful - Firstly the good - boat and rooms were lovely - especially the bath with a view. Staff were pretty good (especially the bar staff) and friendly. Food ranged from average to good. Overall I enjoyed my time on board - but I am marking the experience as poor as what was advertised was not delivered. - there was no mention until we boarded that there would be a 45 minute tender to the boat from the harbour (so 1.5 hours in total which is a big chunk of such a short trip) due to the boat being registered in a different province. - this also meant that the Included meals on final day were breakfast (6.30am-7.30am) and brunch (9.45 am) - not the lunch that was advertised. - the actual itinerary was very different to the advertised one - cutting out the key places that were mentioned in the included parts of the cruise (no floating village, three peaches island). After chatting with customer service I understand that some of the schedules may have changed recently but they have not updated their advertised itinerary at time of writing. - bus journey was closer to 4 hours drive each way rather than 3 hours advertised once you add on the half hour stops at the tourist rip off shops (accidentally bought a bag of crisps for $10usd in one before I realised the exchange rate). The customer service team were pretty good when I responded to a message on WhatsApp about how things went. They sent a nice gift to my hotel and refunded part of the bar bill as way of apology . I would not personally choose this cruise again - but they are not awful - just wish they had delivered what they promised.

False Advertising and Rude Service - Amanda Cruises advertises a premium limousine, but we were picked up in a basic, uncomfortable bus. I contacted Emma, the sales representative who handled our booking, she ignored me completely. At the harbor, the staff refused to assist us. For the return, they used the same low-quality bus again and didn’t even inform us. It was about to leave without us, and if we hadn’t stepped in ourselves, we would’ve been left behind. When I showed the cruise manager Lee our booking and the brochure photos, he just walked away and said he didn’t care about the company’s reputation or reviews. Total scam. Dishonest, careless, and unprofessional. Avoid Amanda Cruises at all costs.
