Great tour - Daan did a great job shepherding my wife, two teenage girls and I around Haarlem. We only had time for two hours, but he worked around our schedule and stopped at three different spots to try some local food. We also saw some interesting sites in the city. Thanks, Daan!

Great experience. - Our food tour with our guide Rene was a great experience. We got to see a lot of things in the city that we had not seen before. our group was small six people so we felt like we were all friends by the time we left. Lots of small tasting bites in different places. And Rene was very knowledgeable about the history of Haarlem. Chocolate, cheese, beer, fries, herring…. what more could you ask for?

Tour with Teenagers - This experience went far beyond our expectations. The tour wasn’t just about visiting local food spots in Haarlem—it also gave us fascinating insights into the city’s history and led us through charming areas we likely would have missed on our own. Daniel was incredibly knowledgeable and did a fantastic job keeping our teenage sons interested—one of them even tried a new food! It ended up being one of the highlights of our entire trip. I only wish we’d had more time to join one of the other tours that Feeding the Nomads offers. Getting to Haarlem from Amsterdam by train was quick and easy.

A Haarlem highlight! - Daan was a superb guide.
We thoroughly enjoyed his company and informative tour.
The food tastings were all high quality and we would highly recommend this tour.
We particularly enjoyed the narrative around slow food and organic produce.
Great to be introduced to Jansje, a special place for special people.

Beautiful Bikeride through Tulip Fields in the Dutch Countryside - Dan was an amazing tour guide, He helped keep us safe while showing us the sites of the lovely Dutch countryside. We even ran into a tricky situation where there was a road closure and there is no way would could have navigated past that without him.

Get Your Guide App would be a better option. - We booked a tour online for Wednesday, and received an email asking if we could swap to Tuesday as they had staff shortages. We asked if the tour would be appropriate for us as we are vegetarian and were assured that it would be be fine and accommodating. Hoping to learn a bit of the history of Dutch foods, especially things we would be trying.
First we met in a cafe. Some of us ordered food and drinks not knowing the order of things. Once everyone was present, the guide said we could have coffee tea or juice. Then the waiter brought over two plates of small bites for the six of us. The waiter tried to describe what we were going to eat, but his English was not as good as our guide’s. However the guide didn’t add any information about the food or the cafe.
Next we went to a chocolate shop and waited to be invited back into the work space. Our guide disappeared and the chocolate worker read from a script how chocolate is made and presented us with samples. After that, we left and found our guide outside.
Wandered around a bit - some history of the different buildings where fish or beef or sheep, etc would be sold. Quickly walked through a hidden church.
From there we followed him to a herring stand. Not a good follow up to chocolates.
He asked if anyone wanted to try and only my wife and I volunteered. No history to this food. No advice on how to eat it. No utensils. We stood at a table and ate the fish. Our guide fed his last bits to a nearby seagull.
After that on to the cheese shop. Again a long wait to enter (these folks were not welcoming and never told us what we were eating). Our guide told us the name of the cheese and whether it was from a cow or goat. That was it. Nothing about how it was made or characteristics of each of three samples. Most of us tossed out the third sample.
Onto the church pub for a beer and bitterballen. Each of us got a drink of choice from a specific list and sat for a bit of information about the oldest beer. Guide got one bottle and two glasses for six of us to try a sample. He drank most of it as others seemed not to want to share the glass. Tried the bitterballen only to find out they contained beef - obviously no one told our guide that we were vegetarian.
Last stop was a rooftop cafe. No information about this place. Sat down and were told we could order a drink or fries.
That was it. Some guests gave him money for the drinks… not knowing they were included. We assumed that stop was the end of the tour - our guide didn’t say. He left and we left. The end. Our guide was fairly clueless about all the foods we tried
There is so much that needs to be improved on this tour, as you can tell from our experience.
