• Haghpat - The Haghpat Monastery Complex is situated in the village of Haghbat, within the Lori region. Established between the 10th and 13th centuries by the royal Bagratuni dynasty, the complex includes the main church of St. Nshan (967-991) adorned with exterior sculptures and interior murals from the 13th-14th centuries, the church of St. Gregory (1005), and the small domed church of St. Astvatsatsin (12th-13th centuries). Additionally, it features a 13th-century refectory, a book depository from the same period, a tiered bell tower (1245), and khachkars (cross-stones). Haghpat Monastery was a major scientific hub with an extensive manuscript collection, housing rooms for manuscript transcription, a refectory, and universities. Since 1996, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
• Zarni Parni - The Zarni-Parni cave-fortress complex, a mysterious site in Lori Province, is located west of Haghpat Monastery. This historical complex comprises the “Zarni er,” “Parni er,” and “Tsak er” caves.
• Sanahin Bridge - Near the unique Sanahin Monastery lies the beautiful “Mendz Er” cave, a fascinating site in the Lori region where visitors can experience both natural wonders and ancient history.
• Mendz Er Cave - Situated in Alaverdi on the route to Sanahin Monastery, the Mendz Er cave includes a museum section within the cave itself.
• Monastery of Sanahin - Located in the village of Sanahin, Lori region, the Sanahin Monastery was constructed between the 10th and 13th centuries. It served as Armenia’s educational center, featuring academies, libraries, scriptoriums, and schools for book copying. In the early 10th century, Armenian clerics expelled from Byzantium built St. Astvatsatsin (the Mother of God) in Sanahin. The main monastery church, Amenaprkich (962), Gregory Magistros academy (11th century), the round St. Gregory the Illuminator temple (1061), scriptorium (1063), and a 13th-century belfry were later added. The complex is protected by UNESCO.
• Odzun - Odzun Monastery is perched on a plateau above the Debed River canyon near Alaverdi, Lori region. This remarkable 6th-century structure is unique in northern Armenia, distinguished by its size and layout. Unlike other Armenian temples of the era, it is encircled by a wall with arches instead of a vestibule, a rare feature in Armenia. The addition of two belfries on the west side is a 19th-century innovation.
