Kilimanjaro International Airport - Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, your guide will be there to greet you and transport you to your lodge in Arusha, a journey of approximately 45-60 minutes, for your first overnight stay. Your guide will provide a brief introduction and outline the details of your tour. Depending on your arrival time and preferences, your guide will suggest activities for the remainder of the day.
Arusha- Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park - Your guide will collect you from the lodge and drive you to Tarangire National Park for a game drive, where you can observe elephants, often seen near the campsite by the (dry bed of the) river. You’ll then head to Larmaku Swamp, a vast area where elephants and other wildlife can be seen cooling off in the water and seeking shade under the acacia trees. While wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, there is a 99.9% chance of seeing large herds of elephants in this park.
Distance from Arusha to Tarangire: 170 km, approximately 3 hours
Afternoon drive to Karatu: 140 km, approximately 2 hours
Full day in Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara - After breakfast, with lunch boxes in hand, you’ll depart for Lake Manyara National Park for a full day of game viewing. With some luck, you’ll enjoy stunning views over the lake, teeming with flamingos, and possibly spot lions nearby. Many animals head to the river for a refreshing drink, and the renowned Manyara lions might be seen in the trees!
Distance: 40 km
Time/road condition: 40 minutes, paved road
Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - Following an early breakfast, you’ll take your lunch boxes and set off for Serengeti National Park via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, offering breathtaking views over the crater below. This day promises adventure as much of the route traverses the heart of Serengeti National Park, particularly the Seronera River area.
Distance: 210 km
Time/road condition: 6 hours, partly paved, mostly sandy and bumpy.
Full day Serengeti Central
Serengeti Hippo Pool - Enjoy a full day of safari in the Serengeti! Travel along the Seronera and Mara Rivers, seeking unforgettable wildlife encounters and insights into the lives of wild animals. Witness wildebeest crossing the river, a hunting cheetah, lion, or other predators, or the majestic silhouette of a giraffe on the horizon. You may spot Nile Crocodiles (sometimes over 6 meters long!) lying in wait for animals to drink or cross, ready to ambush. Explore areas less known to the public, perfect for an off-the-beaten-path experience. Today’s journey follows the presence and migration of animals across the plains.
Serengeti - Ngorongoro
Ngorongoro Crater - After an early breakfast, depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, stopping at Olduvai Gorge and Maasai Boma along the way. Descend into the famous Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive, enjoying breathtaking views. With your guide’s expertise and keen eyesight, you might even spot a rhino. The likelihood of seeing an active pride of lions up close is high. At the Hippo Pool, delight in the sights and sounds of ‘laughing’ hippos enjoying a cool water wallow and mud bath.
Distance: 160 km
Time/road condition: 3 hours, sandy and bumpy.
Karatu - Arusha
Kilimanjaro International Airport - Depending on your itinerary, you’ll be driven to a lodge in Arusha, Arusha Airport (for domestic flights, such as to Zanzibar), or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your return flight home. Late checkout is available for an additional fee. The drive to a lodge or the airport in Arusha takes approximately 3 hours (120 km), while the journey to Kilimanjaro International Airport is about 4 hours (160 km).
