The journey from Whitehorse to Haines Junction and Kluane National Park takes travelers through the heart of the Yukon wilderness. This remarkable drive is filled with stunning landscapes and scenery, with the hope of spotting plenty of wildlife! The afternoon is spent exploring this area along the renowned Alaska Highway, celebrated for its magnificent views.
Upon reaching Haines Junction, the first stop is the Parks Canada interpretive center, where visitors can learn more about Kluane National Park and the world’s largest non-polar ice field within it. After a brief visit to the bakery, the drive continues along the edge of Kluane, enjoying the mountain vistas, to Sheep Mountain. Here, a short, easy walk leads to an incredible viewpoint.
On the return trip, if time and weather allow, there will also be a stop at Kathleen Lake within the National Park, where a short stroll along the lake shore can be enjoyed.
