At the entrance, the iconic torii gate gracefully emerges from the edge of Lake Ashi, creating a magical ‘floating’ illusion that captivates everyone. As visitors proceed along the shrine’s path and ascend the long stone steps, they will pass through the fourth and fifth torii gates before reaching the main hall. It’s a truly special place to experience together.
- Motohakone-ko - From Hakone Shrine, the journey continues back to Motohakone-ko to board the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise heading to Togendai-ko. The ride across Lake Ashi is beautiful, and each of the three pirate ships boasts a unique, elegant interior perfect for relaxation. Stepping out onto the deck, visitors are enveloped by the serene mountain scenery of Hakone, offering a perfect moment to breathe and enjoy the view.
- Hakone Ropeway - After lunch, the adventure continues on the Hakone Ropeway, ascending to Owakudani. On a clear day, there might even be a glimpse of Mt. Fuji.
- Owaku-dani Valley - This area, now one of Hakone’s most iconic spots, was formed over 3,000 years ago during a Mount Hakone eruption. Today, white steam still rises from the mountainside. Combined with the distinctive sulfur scent wafting across the reddish, barren landscape, it’s a highlight of the visit.
While here, the famous “Owakudani black eggs” are a must-try. They turn black when boiled in the hot spring water, as minerals adhere to the shell. It’s said that eating one adds seven years to your life! Whether or not that’s true, enjoying them amidst the scenery is a delightful part of the experience.
- Hakone Gora Tourism Information Center, Gora Station - A brief stop at Gora Station allows for exploration of the charming area around it, before continuing the journey back toward Hakone-Yumoto.
