The Hakone Ropeway provides sweeping views of Mt. Fuji and volcanic landscapes. The most picturesque section is between Owakudani and Ubako, while the stretch from Togendai to Ubako offers views of Lake Ashi.

Owakudani, created around 4,000 years ago by a volcanic eruption, is one of Hakone’s most renowned sightseeing locations. Once called “Hell Valley” due to its toxic fumaroles and boiling pools, it was renamed Owakudani after Emperor Meiji’s visit in 1876.
Here, visitors can sample the local delicacy: Kuro-tamago (Black Eggs), boiled in sulfuric hot springs. Legend has it that consuming one egg adds seven years to your life. The eggs turn black due to a chemical reaction between the hot spring’s sulfur and iron.
