This is one of the finest expressways in Northern Vietnam, offering views of the picturesque countryside with rice fields, rivers, fruit gardens, and the largest port, Hai Phong, along the way. The journey to Tuan Chau Marina takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
- Tuan Chau Island - 11:00: Arrival at Tuan Chau Island, situated in the northwest of Halong Bay, 8 km southwest of Ha Long City. Tuan Chau Marina serves as the official gateway to Halong Bay, with the first marina dedicated to day cruises. Guests will check in for their cruise here.
- Halong Bay - Towering limestone pillars and small islets topped with forests rise from the emerald waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. Recognized as a World Heritage Site in 1994, Halong Bay’s scattered islands, adorned with wind- and wave-eroded grottoes, present a vision of ethereal beauty and are, unsurprisingly, Northern Vietnam’s top tourist destination. It’s time to explore the bay with its 2,000 islands.
- Hon Ga Choi Island - This distinctive pair of karst islets emerges from the tranquil waters of Halong Bay; the unique Hon Ga Choi Island (Fighting Cocks Island) is one of the bay’s most iconic landmarks and a favorite among cruise visitors for photographs. Located in the heart of the bay, the jagged rock formations rise 12 meters above the water, improbably balanced on narrow, weathered bases and appearing to lean towards each other. Guests will stop here to take pictures and admire the unique limestone rock formation.
- Hon Dinh Huong Island - The Incense Burner is a sacred object used for sacrifice and stands in the middle of Ha Long Bay as if offering sacrifices to heaven and earth. It also serves as a reminder of the nation’s good traditions: drinking water while remembering the source; honoring the ancestors and sages who contributed to building, preserving, and defending the Fatherland; and expressing gratitude to the Mother Dragon in the legend—the mascot that helped Dai Viet fight foreign invaders. Incense Burner Island holds both sacred spiritual significance and symbolizes good luck. The image of Incense Burner Island is featured on the VND 200,000 banknote in circulation. Guests will stop to take photos of the Incense Burner, believed to bring fortune.
- Ba Hang - Ba Hang Village enchants visitors with its tranquil waters, stunning lagoons, and peaceful atmosphere. Although the original fishing village was relocated in 2014 to improve fishermen’s livelihoods, the locals continue to play a vital role by rowing boats for tourists. The old school and small shrines remain as preserved landmarks of its rich history.
Explore Ba Hang’s Hidden Lagoon
When the boat stops at Ba Hang, guests can choose one of two activities to explore the serene lagoon, once a safe haven for fishermen during typhoons:
Kayaking: Perfect for adventurers, kayaking allows guests to navigate the emerald waters, limestone cliffs, and picturesque scenery at their own pace.
Rowing Boat to Ba Hang Cave: Relax on a boat ride through three interconnected caves, accessible when water levels rise just enough for passage. Upon emerging on the other side, guests will discover a secluded lake surrounded by rocky mountains, offering a breathtaking natural vista.
- Dong Thien Cung - Proceed to Thien Cung Cave (Heavenly Palace Grotto), one of the most beautiful caves in Halong Bay. Guests will hike up some steps to explore the cave, discovered in 1993 by a fisherman. They can enjoy spectacular views of Halong from above and explore the vast chambers adorned with various stalactites and stalagmites.
- Old Quarter - The boat trip concludes, and guests will return to the car for a 2-hour and 30-minute ride back to the Old Quarter in Hanoi. Arrival at the hotel in Hanoi is expected around 18:00 to 18:30, marking the end of the tour.
