- Kintaikyo Bridge - The tour kicks off at Hiroshima Station at 8:00 AM, where the guide will meet participants by the Shinkansen gates under the Tourist Information sign.
The first stop is the Kintaikyo Bridge. Upon arrival, the guide will provide an in-depth overview of the bridge’s history and its distinctive architecture. If the river’s tide is low, there will be a chance to explore the bridge’s foundation. Participants will then cross the five arches, with ample time to capture photos and enjoy the views from various vantage points.
- Kikko Park - After crossing, the tour continues with a leisurely walk through Kikko Park and Kikko Shrine. The walk offers a chance to appreciate the lush greenery, impressive fountains, and beautiful structures. The guide will point out significant landmarks within the park and temple grounds.
The next activity involves taking the Iwakuni ropeway to the summit of Mount Shiroyama. Although brief, this ride offers a stunning view of the city and the mountain’s verdant landscape, especially breathtaking during spring and fall when cherry blossoms or autumn leaves can be seen from above.
- Iwakuni Castle - At the mountain’s peak, the guide will lead a short walk to Iwakuni Castle. Along the way, participants can enjoy the diverse flora and the fresh mountain air. At the castle, the guide will explain its history and connection to the Kikkawa family. Inside, visitors can explore various exhibitions on each floor, concluding with a viewing platform offering a spectacular view of the city and Kintaikyo Bridge.
After descending, the guide will assist with the train and ferry journey to Miyajima.
- Miyajima Omotesando Shopping Street - Upon reaching the Miyajima pier, the first stop is Omotesando Shopping Street. This bustling street, lined with shops and restaurants, is ideal for lunch, snacks, or souvenir shopping. Participants will have about 90 minutes of free time before the guided tour in Miyajima resumes.
- Senjokaku - The next destination is the Senjokaku Pavilion, an unfinished shrine known for its spaciousness and open views. The guide will discuss the shrine’s history and its unique features.
- Itsukushima Shrine - The tour proceeds to Itsukushima Shrine, where the guide will share insights into Shintoism and the shrine’s history. Visitors can explore the worship halls, admire the “floating shrine” architecture, and see the iconic O-torii gate in the Seto Inland Sea.
- Daishoin Temple - The guide will then lead a walk to Daisho-in Temple, a notable Shingon Buddhist temple near Itsukushima Shrine. The temple grounds feature numerous Buddhist figures and statues, with the Daishi Hall being particularly remarkable for its 88 statues representing the Shikoku Pilgrimage. The hall is illuminated by golden lanterns, creating a stunning atmosphere.
- Itsukushima Shrine Torii - A visit to Miyajima is incomplete without approaching the O-torii gate at low tide. The guide will aim to schedule this walk at the most suitable time during the tour, which may occur before, during, or after free time.
Upon returning to the pier, the guide will accompany participants on the ferry back to the mainland and the final train ride, concluding the tour at Hiroshima Station. Participants are welcome to ask the guide for dinner suggestions or directions back to their hotel.
