• Ha’amonga’a Maui Trilithon - Welcome to the Stargate of Tongatapu, an ancient sun clock and a gateway to the afterlife, akin to Stonehenge. This ancient historical site is a must-visit.
• Makatolo a Maui - These are essentially Maui’s gigantic throwing boulders or stones near Anahulu Cave in Haveluliku Village. Legend has it that Maui, irritated by the ancient Moa, gigantic chickens that woke him up in the morning, hurled these massive boulders at them to silence them.

• Royal Palace - Constructed in 1864 for King George Tupou I, the Royal Palace, made of kauri wood, is located in the heart of Nukuʻalofa and remains the residence of the royal family. The gate is closed, and the grounds are off-limits.
• Royal Tombs - Malaʻekula, or the Royal Tombs, is located in central Nukuʻalofa in the Kingdom of Tonga. The kings of Tonga and their immediate family members (wives, husbands, children) are interred there. Those slightly more distantly related (cousins, nephews, nieces, in-laws) are buried in other chiefly cemeteries. Kings from earlier times, such as the Tuʻi Tonga dynasty, are mostly buried in the langi in Muʻa.

The main royal tombs are situated at the Mala’ekula site, which includes the tombs of the first five kings of Tonga: King George Tupou I, King George Tupou II, Queen Salote III, King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV, and King George V. Each tomb is adorned with traditional Tongan designs and symbols and is surrounded by a beautifully maintained lawn.
