Discover numerous renowned historical sites and embark on an adventure through the breathtaking landscape. Upon reaching the seaside town of Whitby, there will be ample free time to explore the historic town and savor the renowned Fish and Chips.
The journey begins at Byland Abbey to explore the historic ruins, followed by a visit to the picturesque village of Helmsley.
- Our tours are not suitable for children under 5 years old
- There will be a designated lunch stop where you’ll be able to purchase lunch
- There are toilet stops on route

- Please Note: From - 28th March- 25th April 2026 Due to ongoing repairs to the full railway line at Goathland, the planned train journey from Goathland to Whitby is not currently possible. Instead, the tour will now include a train ride from Pickering to Goathland. As a result of this, your return to York may be slightly later than originally scheduled, with an expected arrival time between 17:45 and 18:00.
- Please note that the North York Moors Railway have a private event from June 11th-14th. On these days, our tours will include entrance to the iconic Whitby Abbey instead.
- Please Note; from 23rd March- 27th September 2026 (except for selected dates) the North York Moors Railway will not operate on Thursdays and Fridays during the 2026 season. On these days, our tours will include entrance to the iconic Whitby Abbey instead. Please call the office for further details.

This tour will start at Coach Bay A on Leeman Road, Y01 6FZ, Opposite the Memorial Gardens at 9:00 AM.
The pickup point is a 5 minute walk from York Railway Station. Please arrive on 5 minutes early.

A wonderful trip to the North Yorkshire Moors and Whitby - We had a wonderful trip to the Moors and Whitby with Steve, our excellent driver and guide, who had lots of stories and local knowledge.
Byland Abbey and Helmsley village were lovely to walk around. Visiting Goathland Station (featured in the Harry Potter films as Hogsmeade and Aidensfield in the tv series ‘Heartbeat’) was a particular highlight for us.
The two hours we spent in Whitby, with its abbey, connection to Dracula and delightful harbour area and shops, were very enjoyable.
We thoroughly recommend this trip by Mountain Goat tours.

Wow…what a great tour - My wife and I traveled with Steve today. What a great experience. He was friendly, knowledgeable,

A Fantastic Driving Tour to the Coast - We had a wonderful day with a wonderful guide. He was so knowledgeable, personable and professional. Loved that it was a smaller group which allowed us frequent stops to stretch our legs, see absolutely beautiful landscapes and charming small towns. Highly recommend!

Excellent Day Trip through Beautiful North Yorkshire - A lovely day trip through the moors and over to Whitby on the coast. Our guide, John, was great - informative and personable, and despite the dreary weather, the tour was lively and enjoyable, with ample time to stop at amazing destinations - the ruined Bylands Abbey was a standout, as was the Goathland railway station. And just driving through the unique countryside was a pleasure in itself.

Absolutely gorgeous day trip - This was an absolutely wonderful tour through the Yorkshire Dales, the Moors, and Whitby. Some of the most beautiful countryside I’ve ever seen in my life—rolling hills, charming villages, and breathtaking views at every turn. Our guide was fantastic and shared so much fascinating history along the way, which made the experience even more special. I learned so much while enjoying some of the most peaceful scenery imaginable. Highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to experience the real beauty of Yorkshire.

Great day tour - Great tour and Steve our driver had a lovely patient, calm air about him. He drove very carefully and had lots of knowledge and stories about the place. Our favourite bit was stopping on top of the moors! Breathtaking. All timings were kept to and we really enjoyed the day. We booked direct which was the best value option.
