Scenic tour of the North Yorkshire Moors - A wonderful drive over the moors and an interesting stop in Whitby. Steve, our driver, provided an interesting and sometimes amusing commentary of Yorkshire and its history.

Tight but worth it! - Whitby abbey was on my list of things to see this trip. It did not disappoint. We also got to see Byland abbey. The towns of York and Whitby were also cool. Ben A was our guide and was knowledgeable and fun! The only negative would be something all businesses do which is fill to the hilt. Small bus as bigger ones can’t go through the towns. But there was not 1 open seat. We were in there like sardines. If you don’t mind being super close to your neigh it was a good time.

Tour good with the right guide - The tour itself took us through beautiful countryside and ancient ruins. Having warm, sunny weather helped immensely. Even though tours say they are going to leave on time, our guide, Trevor waited an extra 10 minutes for people who didn’t show up. This had ramifications later. A few minutes into the tour, the commentary was irritating. Every 3rd or 4th word was uhh or umm. When describing historical events, it was “the 3rd or maybe the 4th C”! A hundred years either way - not a big deal?!? We got a lot of farming and land information, and when asked, the guide said he was an agriculturalist. At a second stop, I politely asked if he could give us some occasional quiet time to enjoy the views. He did admit he talked too much, and the narrative improved. Not, however, the delivery. Times on stops were adequate, and he returned on time. We did miss seeing the steam train on a last stop, and Trevor strangely mentioned that if we had left on time, we would have seen it, hence pointing out his own fault at the start of the day. I recommend the tour, but not this guide.
