- Helsinki Cathedral - Known as the White Cathedral, Helsinki Cathedral is the city’s most iconic landmark, often seen in photographs. If the church is open, we can enter to learn about Finland’s religious culture. With some luck, we might also enjoy music inside! (There’s an 8€ entry fee in the summer, so we avoid visiting inside during that time.)
- Kauppatori - “Torille” is a well-known Finnish phrase meaning “to the market”! Let’s visit the market square to discover its significance! We’ll explore what Finns typically eat or drink and what souvenirs you can bring home from Helsinki.
GULF OF FINLAND AND SUOMENLINNA
The Gulf of Finland has witnessed many historical battles and has numerous stories to share about Helsinki. Suomenlinna Island, one of the many beautiful islands in the gulf, is a must-visit as it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. We will, of course, assist you in reaching the island.
- Allas Sea Pool - We will provide a comprehensive guide to a Finnish sauna and offer recommendations on the best saunas in town. Let’s discover why Finns are so passionate about saunas!
- Uspenski Cathedral - Why does Helsinki have two cathedrals? This one differs from Helsinki Cathedral, and we will uncover the reason! We will admire this beautiful cathedral from a distance during our visit to the market square.
- Havis Amanda - Arguably the most famous statue in Helsinki!
- Esplanadi - Known locally as Helsinki’s Champs-Élysées, it is home to Kappeli restaurant and the Espa music stage. In the center stands Runeberg’s statue, Finland’s national poet. Here, we will also learn some interesting facts about Finland.
- Fazer Café Kluuvikatu - The first café bar in Helsinki, possibly the reason Finns adore coffee and coffee breaks!
- Aleksanterinkatu - Aleksi is one of the main streets in the city center, featuring many beautiful Art Deco buildings, each with fascinating stories about Finnish culture!
- Helsinki Central Railway Station - The central train station of Helsinki is a stunning landmark in the city center, guarded by four massive statues with many tales to tell! We will also pass by two other beautiful buildings: Finland’s National Theater and the Ateneum Museum (Finland’s National Gallery).
- Kansalaistori - This is the town’s modern district, surrounded by beautiful postmodern buildings, showcasing why Helsinki was chosen as the World Design Capital in 2012!
- Central Library Oodi - Oodi Library is the tour’s highlight, where you will need to redefine your concept of a library, as it is unlike any library you have ever seen, and it will amaze you!
