Elafonisi, located in the southwest of Crete, is renowned for its pink sand and shallow turquoise waters. This beach has consistently been ranked among the world’s most beautiful. The pink sand is created by the abundance of pink shells that are ground up by the sea. The area is part of the European Natura 2000 protection program. The water is generally shallow and safe for children. For a comfortable journey to and from Rethymno, we make several stops. Agia Sophia Cave is a site of archaeological, geological, and historical significance. The small church of Agia Sophia is situated at the cave’s entrance, which features numerous rows of massive stalactites and stalagmites. In the traditional Cretan mountain village of Elos, you’ll find the island’s largest number of chestnut trees. During the stops, you will have the opportunity to purchase food and drinks. Enjoy the ride through the lush Cretan landscape and spend a day in the crystal-clear waters of the exotic sandy beach of Elafonisi.
