Nice. - We visited the aquarium with our two-year-old. It was a good activity to avoid heat. Arriving early, we didn’t wait long to get in. The staff was very friendly. There are many different aquariums even if everyone stops in front of sharks. We were able to enjoy all the animals and enjoyed the visit, although explanations are sometimes missing a little.

Great Afternoon - We visited here during our recent holiday in Crete, and it was a lovely way to spend a few hours. The aquarium isn’t huge, but it’s really well laid out and easy to get around. The tanks are beautifully maintained, and there’s a nice variety of sea life — from jellyfish and seahorses to sharks, rays, and sea turtles. We found it to be clean, air-conditioned, and a welcome break from the midday sun. Our children really enjoyed watching the larger tanks — they could’ve stood there for ages! There’s also a café and a small gift shop on-site. We were also pleasantly surprised by the admission prices — very reasonable, especially when you compare it to what you’d pay for a similar aquarium visit back in the UK. It’s not a full-day attraction, but for a couple of hours, it’s ideal — particularly if you’re staying nearby

Lovely aquarium. - This was an amazing visit for me & my niece, we loved every second of this aquarium seeing all different types & sizes of fishes swimming around & also seeing what gets pulled out of the sea & ocean (shocking) ... overall world definitely recommend visiting. Staff were very helpful & polite, weather was lovely, gift shop had a nice bit to offer as well & the cafe was lovely filled with fresh produce! Would go back on next visit to Gouves.

Impressive venue with caring staff - The approach to the aquarium through a semi-derelict area that looked like an abandoned barracks didn’t fill us with much hope. But the aquarium itself was fantastic! Impressive well-lit tanks with plenty of fish but not overcrowded. We were a little concerned about the size of the octopus’s tank, but having spoken to them afterwards, they explained that they moved him from tank to tank for variety and he preferred a smaller tank as it made him feel more secure. Similarly, the green turtle is not resident for life but is replaced regularly. The current resident is back for her third visit, receiving medical treatment. Excellent explanations from the staff who really care deeply for their charges.

Cared for Aquarium - Nice Aquarium and very well cared for. Nice activity in bad weather but also nice to escape the heat. Many different fish and very educational. Order tickets online in advance, in high season perhaps very busy. Nice terrace outside, the restaurant inside was slightly less cozy. We were there for over an hour.

What to do if you are next door - Good activity to do in ridge (if you are close to this place). About 25min walk from Gouves. (But don't drive 1 hour for that). Price: 12€/pers If you are close to the cretaquarium it is worth visiting, taking the time to visit hard 30/45min. A nice variety of different fish (including sharks). It is not the most incredible aquarium but it has the merit of being visited. Small nice activity during your stay. Only downside, very loud if there are many people.

Varied aquarium. Ideal for families and bad weather days - The CretAquarium offers a nice opportunity to get to know the fascinating underwater world of the Mediterranean Sea. With a variety of fish species and sea creatures, it is designed to be interesting for both children and adults. In the large aquariums you can admire sharks, rays, jellyfish, seahorses and many other species. The entrance fee is fair, especially as there are discounts for children, students and pensioners. Pregnant and elderly people receive preferential treatment at the checkout. Tip: If you don't want to wait in line, you should book your tickets online in advance, e.g. via GetYourGuide. This makes it easy to bypass the queue at the checkout. The facility is barrier-free and wheelchair-accessible, which is particularly positive. All the aquariums are easily visible, and in many places there are multilingual explanations of the marine world, which are informative and vividly designed. So the visit is not only entertaining, but also educational. You should allow about an hour to discover everything in peace. For guidance: The approach seems a bit unusual at first, as you pass some buildings that seem abandoned – don’t be put off here, the aquarium is a bit hidden, but is well signposted. At the end of the tour there is a small souvenir shop where you can buy maritime souvenirs.

Good place for a rainy day - We visited the aquarium on a rainy day in Crete, it was a good activity for a rainy day but get there early! We arrived just after 10am and queued for about 10mins to get in. When we left the place around 11.30am the queue was all the way down the steps to get in and if it’s raining there is no cover same if it’s hot. However if you need the toilet try and keep your legs crossed as the toilets were disgusting unsanitary and filthy. But once inside the aquarium the tanks were well kept and nice informative what’s in each tank

Tourists not welcome - First of all, to the aquarium: It is all accessible by wheelchair/pram. There is a kiosk and a restaurant as well as ample parking (without shade, parking itself just gravel, not paved). The entrance fee was 24 euros for two adults (children up to 4 free). The biodiversity is mediocre/ok. The aquariums are of similar dimensions to those in German aquariums. But if you have ever been to SEA Life aquariums or, for example, Palma Aquarium, you might be a bit disappointed here. For someone who has never visited an aquarium, it's a great thing. For the children, the aquariums and the “join-in” stations were sometimes a little too high/hard to reach. In addition, the stations were besieged by school classes. Unfortunately, what totally messed up the trip for us is the behavior of the staff in the souvenir shop. We wanted to support the aquarium by buying some of the totally overpriced toys for the children. Shop happy, kids happy. At least that was the plan, but far from it. We queued up with toys worth 50€ at the till, only two mums in front of us, great, but goes fast, I thought. But the cashier read a lot of time and typed each item number manually in slow motion. The first mummy with her felt 20 small bracelets lasted 5 minutes. The second mother with her 10-15 creeping animals also lasted a felt eternity. Great, now it's finally our turn, I thought. But then from the sides just kept pushing more Greek mums in front of us and were preferred by the cashier. When I complained, the cashier laughed at me and muttered something in Greek, which was certainly not nice. At first I wanted to wait anyway because the children were so excited about the toys. But after another 15 minutes (our children were already whining) and the 10th Greek mum pushing brazenly, I had no patience and tried to complain to the shop manager. She then explained to me that it was a school trip of local children and all parents and children of this group are served first. I should wait. Since there were still several mums there, we left the toys behind and left the shop with crying children. I don't think it would have been a problem to collect our two items in between, but here locals are simply preferred and tourists are unnecessarily harassed. TOO BAD! We won't come back and can't recommend it either.
