• Urquhart Castle - The next destination is the splendidly positioned Urquhart Castle, situated on the shore of Loch Ness. Visitors can admire the castle’s strategic location on a rocky promontory with a panoramic view of Loch Ness, while soaking in the atmosphere of one of Scotland’s most renowned lochs.
• Eilean Donan Castle - The journey continues to Eilean Donan Castle, recognized globally as one of Scotland’s most iconic images. Positioned on an island where three great sea lochs converge and surrounded by breathtaking scenery, it is no surprise that the castle is one of the most visited and significant attractions in the Scottish Highlands.
• Skye Bridge - Over the Sea to Skye - The Isle of Skye is linked to the mainland by a road bridge, connecting the mainland village of Kyle of Lochalsh to the village of Kyleakin on Skye.
• Isle of Skye Market Square - Explore the village of Broadford, nestled beneath the nurturing shape of Ben na Calliach (the hill of the old woman). The name reflects the island’s political history. Broadford originates from the Old Norse Breiðafjorðr meaning ‘wide bay’ but has been translated into Gaelic as An t-Àth Leathann, meaning the ‘broad river-ford.’ Visit Broadford.
• Sligachan Old Bridge - Sligachan is where the Black Cuillin meets the western seaboard. This is the place to witness the view that frequently adorns postcards and canvases, showcasing the Red and Black Cuillin with Glen Sligachan nestled between them.
• Talisker Distillery - A brief stop at Talisker Distillery, the oldest working distillery on the Isle of Skye, located on the shores of Loch Harport with dramatic views of the Cuillins. It produces a captivating, sweet, full-bodied single malt that is easy to enjoy and, like Skye itself, hard to leave.
• Fairy Pools - The spectacular Fairy Pools are near the village of Carbost in Glenbrittle on the Isle of Skye. Glenbrittle runs roughly south to north along the River Brittle and is overlooked by the Cuillin mountains. Many tributaries of the River Brittle flow down from the Cuillin into the glen, including a stream with waterfalls known as the Fairy Pools, a popular spot for walkers. The Fairy Pools are beautiful rock pools of crystal-clear spring water fed by a series of waterfalls. Visitors can embark on the stunning 2.4km walk from the car park to the Fairy Pools via the gravel path bordered with grass, heather, peat, and rocks up towards the largest waterfall, or walk further up the path to explore some of the smaller pools ahead. The water of the Fairy Pools is crystal clear, perfect for adventurous swimmers brave enough to enter the icy waters. – Go on, you know you want to.
• Portree Harbour - Conclude with a visit to the island’s capital, the village of Portree, located on the east side of Skye overlooking a sheltered bay. As the capital of the island, it is only about 200 years old, having been established as a fishing village at the beginning of the 19th century by the then Lord MacDonald.
