- Glen Shiel - The Battle of Glenshiel took place in the West Highlands of Scotland on June 10, 1719, between British government forces and a Jacobite-Spanish alliance, ending in a government victory. It was the last close encounter of British and foreign troops in Great Britain.
- Ratagan Pass viewpoint - The Mam Ratagan, or Bealach Ratagain, is a pass from Shiel Bridge on the A87 over the hill to Glenelg and its surrounding communities. This popular tourist route connects with the Glenelg - Kylerhea Ferry service to the Isle of Skye, offering a scenic alternative to the Skye Bridge. Few realize this was the original road to Skye, built by Major Caulfeild as a military road to the barracks at Glenelg, following an older drovers’ route. The views of the Five Sisters of Kintail are unmatched.
- Brochs at Glenelg - Dun Telve & Dun Troddan - Marvel at two ancient broch towers set in a picturesque glen.
Dun Telve and Dun Troddan are remarkable brochs located in the beautiful valley of Gleann Beag. They are unusually close, just 500m apart. Their excellent preservation has drawn attention for years, and they are notable for their design, scale, and quality of construction. Dun Telve stands over 10m tall in some areas, while Dun Troddan, at 7.6m, is better preserved.
- Skye Ferry - Experience 18 GLORIOUS MILES from the turnoff to Shiel Bridge in Kintail to a main road outside Broadford on Skye. Embark on an adventure on the LAST SURVIVING MANUALLY OPERATED TURNTABLE CAR FERRY in the world. The MV Glenachulish is perfectly suited for this unique crossing to Skye and is a vital part of our heritage. Although a car ferry service has crossed the Kylerhea straits since 1934, this crossing has been in use for centuries, as it is the closest point on the Mainland to the Isle of Skye.
- Plockton - After crossing the Skye Bridge, search for Highland cattle and palm trees in Plockton. Known as “The Jewel of the Highlands,” Plockton is a charming Highland village on a sheltered bay with breathtaking views of Loch Carron.

Starting our journey with a leisurely drive alongside the northern coast of Loch Ness, we’ll take a moment to explore Invermoriston, walking around the falls and dropping by the interesting Crafts and Clogs shop. Heading north-west from here, we traverse next to the picturesque Loch Cluanie, possibly taking a coffee break at The Cluanie Inn, before journeying through the magnificent Kintail mountain scenery. We can take a break near the bottom of the glen to take in the historical site of the Battle of Glenshiel (1719). From there, we’ll ascend the Ratagan pass, feasting our eyes on the stunning vista of the Five Sisters of Kintail before descending into Glenelg. In Glenelg, we’ll marvel at the renowned Glenelg Brochs, a pair of structures aged over 2,000 years situated just beyond the village, before boarding the community-run ferry to cross the sea to Skye.
