  Bundala National Park is situated in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka, part of a large network of national parks and sanctuaries along the Southern - Southeastern coast. It was designated a wildlife sanctuary in 1969 and became a national park in 1993. It later became the first of four Ramsar Wetlands in Sri Lanka and was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2005.
