KANDY - SIGIRIYA
Dambulla Cave Temple - Dambulla boasts the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock rises 160 meters above the surrounding plains, with over 80 documented caves in the vicinity. Key attractions are spread across five caves, featuring statues and paintings related to Gautama Buddha and his life. There are 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri Lankan kings, and four statues of gods and goddesses, including Vishnu and Ganesha. The murals cover an area of 2,100 square meters (23,000 sq ft). The cave walls depict scenes such as the temptation by the demon Mara and Buddha’s first sermon. Prehistoric Sri Lankans likely inhabited these caves before Buddhism’s arrival, as evidenced by burial sites with human skeletons approximately 2,700 years old in the area, near Ibbankatuwa.

SIGIRIYA - COLOMBO
Sigiriya - Encircled by the remnants of an extensive network of gardens and reservoirs, Sigiriya is rich in history dating back to the 5th century BC.
Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - The ancient rock fortress and palace of Sigiriya (Lion Rock) is one of Sri Lanka’s seven World Heritage Sites and has been recognized by UNESCO as the 8th Wonder of the World. The fortress served as a rock-shelter mountain monastery, with caves prepared and donated by devotees to the Buddhist Sangha. It is believed that the entire complex was constructed by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD), with most of the elaborate structures on the rock summit, including defensive structures, palaces, and gardens, dating back to this period. A fascinating feature of Sigiriya is the Mirror Wall, originally polished so finely that the King could see his reflection as he walked beside it. The wall frescoes are shrouded in mystery and the subject of many legends. Whether interested in art and history or not, a visit to Sigiriya is essential to experience the breathtaking views.
