As someone who has spent countless hours on the open road, exploring the vast landscapes of America, I was eager to experience the vibrant streets of Ho Chi Minh City. My husband and I decided to embark on a Vegan Food Tour on our first day in Vietnam, and it turned out to be a delightful introduction to this bustling city. Our guides, Thuy and Lucy, greeted us with infectious smiles and a warm welcome that instantly made us feel at home.

Riding on the back of their motorbikes, we were whisked away into the heart of the city. The chaotic dance of traffic around us was reminiscent of the lively energy I remember from small-town festivals back in the States. Thuy and Lucy navigated the streets with ease, their laughter and stories filling the air as we zipped through the city. It was a thrilling start to our journey, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia for the road trips of my youth.

Our first stop was a charming vegan restaurant in District 3, where we savored “Banh Xeo,” a crispy rice pancake that was both delicious and comforting. The flavors were a revelation, and I was reminded of the simple yet profound joy of discovering new tastes on the road. As we continued our tour, we visited a bustling flower market, where the vibrant colors and fragrant blooms transported me back to the roadside flower stands I used to visit with my family. We even had the chance to grill banana crispy crackers, a delightful experience that added a personal touch to our culinary adventure.

Thuy and Lucy’s passion for their city was evident in every story they shared. They took us to historical sites, including the place where Thich Quang Duc monk made his ultimate sacrifice.
