Day trip to Port Arthur - The bus trip to Port Arthur includes two activities that are optional-the harbour cruise and the visit to the Remarkable Caves (which includes over 100 hundred stairs). We were happy that we didn't do these, as there is so much to see and explore at Port Arthur itself. It is a full day, starting at 8.30am and getting back at approximately 6pm. Our driver Phil was very knowledgeable about the area and kept us entertained with jokes! :-)

Great day out with friendly and helpful staff - We took a day trip to Port Arthur than included boat trip with Nick and Zoe whom clearly love their work and contributed to a great experience even though the sea conditions not ideal with strong winds. Phil the coach driver was very informative and helped the journey pass. No pictures of seals/ dolphins sea eagles as enjoyed seeing them without taking pictures.

A very insightful day trip to Port Arthur - A very insightful day trip to Port Arthur. The grounds and buildings at Port Arthur are glorious but tell an interesting tale of how prisoners and workers lived there and what they had to endure. If you can catch the guides talks at the different locations you gain even more of an insight into live at Port Arthur. The added bonus was our bus driver for the trip, who from memory was called Colin, not only very informative about all things Tasmanian but had a good sense of humour, though some of the jokes were definately "Dad" jokes

Above and beyond - Colin was our driver. His "bad" jokes were very entertaining. We enjoyed the DOO village on the way. Port Arthur great to visit, and he prepared us well. All went as planned until we bid farewell at the end of the return drive. He took us to our cruise ship terminal, and warned us to make sure we had all our possessions, but I still managed to leave my phone behind, since it had dropped to the floor. Panic! as we were on a cruise ship leaving Tasmania, Australia within the hour for New Zealand. Unbeknown to me, Colin spotted the phone ant the next drop off, and returned immediately to hand it in to our cruise departure terminal. Meanwhile I had raced 10 minutes back to the Grayline tour desk, which had closed for the evening. A phone call to Grayline however did get a message through to Colin as to where I now was waiting. Colin came back again to pick me up!! After reassuring me, he then drove me again to the cruise ship terminal. So caring! So many red lights as he drove round there for the third time. What a star - many thanks. Jay

Amazing tour with an incredible guide - Hi fellow travellers, writing this to reflect on my experience from the tour. Our guide Mark/Marc was absolutely amazing - so knowledgeable about the history of Hobart and Tasmania, and Port Arthur, he wouldn’t stop to take a breather in the middle of his talks about the history of the place, and all this while driving a big bus of 50 people onboard! Poor bloke had some terrible cough in the middle, but nothing could stop him from talking to us and guiding us. Throughout the journey he was sharing with us little known facts about the places he drove us through, painting a vivid picture in our heads. Not to forget, he is so hilarious! That was the cherry on top of the cake that was this tour. He carefully instructed us about what was expected / going to happen when we reach port Arthur, briefed us on the itinerary multiple times just to make sure everyone had understood, took a thorough and careful headcount (in two ways!) to make sure we hadn’t lost anyone on the way to or from port Arthur in one of our stops. All in all an amazing tour, highly recommend. Kudos on having such an amazing tour guide, give the man a raise!!

Port Arthur via Grayline bus tours with- pros and cons - My husband and I did the Port Arthur tour via Grayline bus tours with a convenient pick up location to our hotel. Driver was very pleasant and on time. He talked non stop the entire drive to Port Arthur filling in all sorts of great information for the majority of the clients. Our problem was we could hardly understand him - not sure if it was the intercom/microphone system or just his accident was so strong that it honestly was like a sound machine droning on and on…..I know he would have had great information and insight to tell most of the passengers about but missed the boat for us. We stopped at some Tasmanian chocolate foundry (not a factory) which was not even Tasmanian chocolate - apparently just melted down Belgian chocolate probably just some Tasmanian packaging. My beef with stopping here was that the bus driver didnt allow anything to come onto the bus so those people who purchased ice cream had to stand outside and eat it while the rest of us on the bus waited!!! Port Arthur itself was a great tour and highly recommend that but if you have trouble with accents, just know this is only going to be transportation.
