- Pirates Bay/Eaglehawk Neck - Today promises to be thrilling and dynamic, so an early departure from Hobart is planned to head straight to the breathtaking Tasman Peninsula. This region boasts a rich history, intriguing tales, and stunning landscapes. It also features Australia’s tallest sea cliffs. Enjoy the sweeping views from Pirates Bay Lookout, offering a fantastic perspective of the surrounding area.
As we pass through Eaglehawk Neck and “The Dogline,” our Tour Guides will share captivating stories and historical insights about the area.
- Waterfall Bay - The Waterfall Bay track is one of Tasmania’s “Great Short Walks.” We follow a magnificent path, approximately 2 km along the dramatic cliff tops. The walk takes about 45-60 minutes, is gently undulating, and is classified as an easy walk, suitable for active and fit individuals. The track ends at the extraordinary rock formations of Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen.
-
Port Arthur - The next stop is the Port Arthur Lavender Farm. Wander along the lavender trail or enjoy ocean views while savoring fresh Tasmanian produce in the lavender-themed café.
Visitors will have time to explore Port Arthur Lavender’s visitor center and café, where they highlight ancient uses of this aromatic flower alongside modern cuisine and a fully operational essential oil distillery. - Port Arthur Historic Site - The following destination is the Port Arthur Historic Site. Here, a wealth of information and history awaits discovery. Entry includes a complimentary Harbour Cruise around the Isle of the Dead, ‘The Port Arthur Experience’ podcast offering a fascinating introduction to the site, and complimentary site talks throughout the day led by Port Arthur’s expert guides. Uncover the grim and violent history of the early Australian Penal system and experience the isolation felt by the convicts in this “inescapable prison.” With approximately 3 hours here, there is plenty of time to explore the main penitentiary, view the solitary confinement cells, and many more buildings in this World Heritage open-air museum.
- Richmond - On the return journey to Hobart, we travel through the historic township of Richmond. Arriving late in the afternoon, there is time to wander the streets, stop for a coffee, visit the Lolly Shop, explore the Chocolatier, and walk across Australia’s oldest bridge still in use – a convict-built sandstone bridge, rumored to be haunted!
We return to Hobart around 6.00pm.
