Tasmania’s Untamed Beauty: A Six-Day Eco Adventure

Drawn by the allure of Tasmania’s wild beauty, I embarked on a six-day eco-friendly adventure across the island. Guided by a native Tasmanian, the journey was a perfect blend of nature, history, and culture, leaving me with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for sustainable travel.

Embracing Tasmania’s Wild Beauty

As a passionate advocate for sustainable travel, I was thrilled to embark on the Discover Tasmania tour, a six-day journey through the heart of Tasmania’s breathtaking landscapes. From the moment I arrived in Hobart, the air was filled with a sense of adventure and the promise of discovery. Our guide, Hadyn Chilcott, a native Tasmanian with a wealth of knowledge about the island’s flora, fauna, and history, was instrumental in making this trip unforgettable.

Our journey began at the vibrant Salamanca Markets, where the aroma of fresh produce and the vibrant colors of local handicrafts set the tone for the days ahead. As we ventured into the rugged Western Wilds, the beauty of Russell Falls in Mount Field National Park took my breath away. The cascading waters, surrounded by lush rainforest, were a testament to the untouched beauty of Tasmania’s wilderness.

The highlight of our first day was the visit to Lake St Clair, Australia’s deepest freshwater lake. The serene waters mirrored the sky, creating a tranquil scene that was both humbling and inspiring. As we continued through the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park, the tannin-colored waters of the Franklin River and the majestic Nelson Falls were reminders of nature’s raw power and beauty.

A Journey Through Time and Nature

The second day of our adventure took us on the Gordon River Cruise, a journey that was as enlightening as it was beautiful. Cruising through the UNESCO World Heritage rainforest, we were transported back in time as we explored Sarah Island, once a harsh penal settlement. The stories of the island’s history, coupled with the stunning natural surroundings, painted a vivid picture of Tasmania’s past.

Strahan, the picturesque harborside village where our cruise began and ended, was a charming gateway into the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. The town’s history, intertwined with the natural beauty of Macquarie Harbour, made for a captivating experience.

As we traveled to Tullah, the views of Mount Murchison’s rugged peaks were a constant reminder of Tasmania’s untamed beauty. Our lakeside chalet on the shores of Lake Rosebery provided a perfect setting for reflection and relaxation after a day filled with exploration.

Unforgettable Encounters and Scenic Wonders

One of the most memorable experiences was our visit to the Unzoo, where we had the unique opportunity to feed birds and kangaroos. The joy of interacting with these creatures in their natural habitat was a poignant reminder of the importance of conservation and the need to protect these precious ecosystems.

Our journey continued to Cradle Mountain National Park, where the alpine and glacial landscapes were nothing short of spectacular. The Dove Lake Circuit, a 6km walk around the glacial lake beneath the peaks of Cradle Mountain, offered some of the most breathtaking views I have ever encountered. The sight of wombats at Ronny Creek and the historical insights at Waldheim Chalet added depth to our exploration.

The final leg of our journey took us to the Bay of Fires and Freycinet National Park, where the pristine beaches and turquoise waters were a feast for the senses. Walking to the Wineglass Bay Lookout, with its panoramic views of Tasmania’s most famous beach, was a fitting conclusion to our adventure.

As the sun set on our final night, Hadyn serenaded us with his guitar, the melodies blending with the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. It was a moment of pure magic, a perfect end to a journey that was as much about discovering Tasmania’s natural wonders as it was about connecting with its rich history and vibrant culture.

This trip was a testament to the power of sustainable travel, allowing us to explore and appreciate the beauty of Tasmania while leaving a minimal footprint. For those seeking an adventure that combines nature, history, and culture, the Discover Tasmania tour is an experience not to be missed.
