Exploring Ninh Binh: A Solo Traveler’s Adventure from Hanoi
Eager to escape the hustle and bustle of Hanoi, I embarked on a day tour to Ninh Binh, a region known for its stunning landscapes and rich history. Join me as I recount a day filled with exploration, laughter, and breathtaking views.
A Day of Discovery in Ninh Binh
The day began early, with a 7:20 AM meet-up at the Hanoi Opera House. I was greeted by our guide, Ryan, whose infectious energy and humor set the tone for the day. As a solo traveler, I often find myself in the company of strangers, but Ryan’s engaging personality quickly turned our group into a band of adventurers. We were a mix of solo travelers and small groups, all eager to explore the wonders of Ninh Binh.
Our first stop was Hoa Lu, the ancient capital of Vietnam. While the temple visit wasn’t the highlight for me, it was fascinating to learn about the Dinh and Le Dynasties. The temple provided wraps for those of us in shorts, which was a thoughtful touch. Despite my lukewarm interest in the temple, the historical significance of the site was undeniable, and it was a gentle introduction to the rich tapestry of Vietnam’s past.
The Beauty of Tam Coc
Next, we headed to Tam Coc for a boat ride that promised views of “Halong Bay on land.” The scenery was breathtaking, with limestone karsts rising majestically from the water. The boat ride was a serene experience, though I found myself wishing it was a bit shorter. The gentle rhythm of the oars and the stunning landscape made for a peaceful journey, but my restless spirit was eager for the next adventure.
After the boat ride, we hopped on bikes for a short 15-minute ride around the village. This was a highlight for me, as it offered a glimpse into the daily lives of the locals. The ride was too brief for my liking, but it was a refreshing change of pace and a chance to stretch our legs before the next challenge.
Conquering Mua Cave
The final leg of our journey was the climb up Mua Cave. The 500 steps were daunting, each one feeling like two or three, especially in the heat. But the view from the top was worth every drop of sweat. The panoramic vista of Tam Coc, with its lush rice fields and winding rivers, was a sight to behold. For those who preferred a more leisurely experience, there were chill spots at the base of the mountain where you could relax with a drink.
Lunch was a buffet of local dishes, including goat meat and fried rice. While it wasn’t the culinary highlight of the trip, it was a welcome break and a chance to refuel. I would recommend bringing snacks, as the next meal wouldn’t be until our return to Hanoi.
Overall, the Ninh Binh Day Tour was a fantastic addition to my solo journey through Vietnam. It was a full day of exploration, laughter, and new friendships. Whether you’re traveling alone or with friends, this tour offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Just remember to pack some snacks and a sense of adventure!
