- Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum - The tour guide and vehicle from Paradise Indochina Travel will collect guests from their hotels to begin exploring Hanoi City. The first stop is Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum, open only in the mornings from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM, and closed on Mondays and Fridays. This is the final resting place of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam’s most revered leader, affectionately known as ‘Uncle Ho.’ His body is preserved in a glass case here, despite his wishes. The mausoleum’s construction began in 1973, inspired by Lenin’s mausoleum in Russia, and it opened to the public in 1975. Security is strict, and visitors should dress respectfully (no shorts, sleeveless shirts, or miniskirts), and must leave bags and cameras outside. PLEASE NOTE: The mausoleum is closed annually from June 10 to August 12 for maintenance.
- One Pillar Pagoda - According to legend, the One Pillar Pagoda was built following a dream of the childless emperor, in which Avalokiteshvara, the enlightened being, presented him with a son on a lotus flower. Emperor Ly Thai Tong commissioned the pagoda to resemble this lotus flower, a Buddhist symbol of enlightenment. The Emperor expressed gratitude to the bodhisattva and later to Quan Am, the Goddess of Mercy, after his son’s birth. Inside, a richly gilded statue of Quan Am is the focal point of the main altar. Today, the concrete pillar supporting the small wooden pagoda replaces the original, destroyed by the departing French. It is unclear how much of the wooden structure is original. Behind the pagoda grows a bo tree, said to be an offshoot of the tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment, gifted from India in 1958.
- Temple of Literature & National University - The Temple of Literature is often regarded as one of Hanoi’s most beautiful tourist spots. Originally established as a university in 1070 dedicated to Confucius, scholars, and sages, the building is well-preserved and exemplifies traditional Vietnamese architecture. This historic site features a lake of literature, the Well of Heavenly Clarity, turtle steles, pavilions, courtyards, and passageways once used by royalty. Visitors to the Temple of Literature will discover historic buildings from the Ly and Tran dynasties in a revered place that has seen thousands of doctors graduate, now a memorial to education and literature. Initially, the university only accepted aristocrats, the elite, and royal family members as students, eventually opening to talented ‘commoners.’ Successful graduates had their names engraved on stone steles atop stone turtles.
- Dong Xuan Market - Dong Xuan Market, Hanoi’s largest wholesale market, was established in 1889. It has long been a tourist attraction due to its central location, impressive architecture, and history. At Dong Xuan Market, visitors can find a variety of goods, including fabric, clothing, local handicrafts, souvenirs, and street foods. During the nationwide war in 1946, Dong Xuan Market was the site of fierce battles between Vietnamese resistance fighters and French soldiers, notably the combat of “deciding-to-die” soldiers (Quyết Tử Quân) to prevent a French attack on Inter-resistance Zone 1 in February 1947. For over a century, Dong Xuan Market has been associated with significant milestones in Hanoi’s history, embodying both material and sentimental value, and becoming one of Hanoi’s iconic symbols.
- Long Bien Bridge - After the French army conquered Hanoi in 1882, the Long Bien Bridge was constructed in 1899 and completed in 1902. A symbol of the resilience and determination of the Hanoian people, the bridge was bombed multiple times during the American War, each time swiftly repaired by the Vietnamese. The bridge, used by trains, mopeds, and pedestrians, is currently undergoing reconstruction to restore its original appearance. It is beautifully illuminated at night.
- Hanoi Train Street Entrance - Visiting Hanoi Train Street is one of the best activities to experience and explore local life in Hanoi. Unlike a typical road with car or motorbike traffic, it features actual railway lines running through it. Located in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, this narrow alley attracts travelers eager to capture a photo on the active train track and even witness a train passing by! This alley is a residential area, with many locals converting their homes into charming cafes where visitors can enjoy traditional egg coffee. It is a truly wonderful experience when visiting Hanoi city.
- Hanoi Opera House - The Hanoi Opera House (French: Opéra de Hanoï) was constructed by the French colonial administration between 1901 and 1911. Visitors are allowed to view the exterior of the building. It is one of three opera houses built by the French in Indochina, alongside the Haiphong Opera House and the Municipal Theatre in Ho Chi Minh City. Modeled after the Palais Garnier, the older of Paris’s two opera houses, it is considered an architectural landmark of Hanoi. The Opera House’s main architectural style is Neoclassicism. After the French departure, the opera house became the site of several political events and street fighting during the battle for Hanoi. After visiting this site, the car and driver will return guests to their original pickup location, marking the end of the service.

Great tour to see main attractions - This tour is perfect for first timers to Hanoi and helps you get aquainted with the city. Guide and driver were exceptional. Lan, our guide, was very good at telling us about each place and was super friendly. She went out of her way to assist us throughout the tour.

Great introduction to Vietnamese culture and history - We were very lucky to have Lan as our guide in Hanoi. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about sharing her knowledge with others. We need to admit that are not the 'easiest' travellers as we have a lot of questions about the history, language, culture and Lan knew the answers to all of them. We had a great introduction to Vietnam's culture and history which helped us a lot during our trip to this marvellous country. Lan also gave us great food recommendations in the city. We learnt a lot, laught a lot! Was a great tour but this is all thanks to the one and only Lan! Looking forward to seeing you again!

The guide was friendly... - The guide was friendly and seemed knowledgeable about Vietnam’s history, though he appeared quite young and somewhat inexperienced. Unfortunately, we missed 3 of the 7 places listed in the itinerary. We also just missed a train we were trying to catch and had to wait about 40 minutes for the next one, which cost us some time.
There was also some confusion about the egg coffee/tea that was supposed to be included in the package. Initially, the guide asked us to pay for it, but after we asked him to double-check with his team, he confirmed that the drinks would be covered. During this process, we were taken up and down the busy train street several times with our elderly parents while trying to find a cheaper café. In the end, they did cover the drinks at a slightly more expensive café, which we appreciated.
Overall, the experience was pleasant, but the itinerary felt a bit rushed. Trying to fit so many stops into a half-day tour made it difficult to see everything comfortably; it would likely work better as a full-day tour.

Was nice, but too little - Nice guide, but left out a lot what we noticed only afterwards. Sure, it was only a morning, but dropped us off at the hotel after less than 3h

Good tour, very helpful guide. - Had a good tour with Linh, he was very helpful and knowledgeable about the locations, it's a shame train street has no trains ! Not the operators fault, it's the same for everyone, I would recommend, hopefully someone else would get better weather, Hanoi in the cold and rain is not pleasant.
