Legend says it was built following a dream by the fatherless emperor, where Avalokiteshvara presented him with a son on a lotus flower. Emperor Ly Thai Tong commissioned the pagoda to resemble this lotus flower, a Buddhist symbol of enlightenment. Inside, a richly gilded statue of Quan Am is at the main altar. After completion, followers came daily to give thanks and support the emperor, praying for a long and successful reign. Today, the concrete pillar supporting the wooden pagoda replaces the original, which was destroyed.

The exhibition hall features everyday objects, a research center, library, and auditorium. The outdoor area displays full-scale replicas of Vietnamese homes, with attention to architectural styles in tranquil gardens. Traditional water puppet theater and calligraphy are also on display.
Lake of the Restored Sword (Hoan Kiem Lake) - Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi is a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle. The lake surrounds Ngoc Son Temple, a pagoda on a small island. The temple honors 13th-century military leader Tran Hung Dao, known for his bravery against the Yuan Dynasty. Homage is also paid to scholar Van Xuong and Confucian master Nguyen Van Sieu. The island, known as Jade Island, is accessible by the iconic Huc Bridge, a charming scarlet-painted wooden bridge. The pagoda is guarded by two towering posts with Chinese writing. The lake and temple are famous spots in Hanoi to relax and enjoy the view.
