The whole gorge is stunning, you have to take shorts stops to enjoy the scenery and the beauty of nature. The gorge became a national park in 1962 particularly as a refuge for the rare kri-kri (Cretan wild goat). There are several endemic species in the gorge, as well as many other species of flowers and birds. After hiking Samaria gorge, you will reach Agia Roumeli village, where you could have lunch, swim and relax from the hike, and also buy the tickets for the boat, its 13 euro per person. At 5:30pm you will take the boat to Sougia village, a 45-minute trip, where I will wait to take you to Chania.

Samaria Gorge is a National Park renowned for its unique flora and fauna, nestled in the heart of the mountains. It is considered the best hike in Crete and possibly one of the finest in Europe. The park is open from May 1st to the end of October. The hike is challenging, with an uneven and rocky path, so caution is advised.
Samaria offers a 16km (10 miles) downhill trek through forests and mountains, featuring a flowing river and organized rest areas. It is impossible to get lost, as the trail leads through the gorge’s base, surrounded by cliffs. The hike takes approximately 5 hours to complete and is reminiscent of both the Grand Canyon and Zion.
The journey begins at 7 am and concludes at 9 pm. After an hour’s drive, guests will arrive at the gorge entrance, where they will be dropped off. The hike concludes at Agia Roumeli, a quaint village where boat tickets to Sougia can be purchased. At Sougia, the operator will be waiting to drive guests back.
