Relax at the optional Krauma Geothermal Baths or visit a nearby farm to meet Icelandic horses. Enjoy the picturesque surroundings, but remember to stay on the designated paths.
Snorralaug - Visit Snorralaug, a historic hot spring pool known as the bathing spot of Iceland’s renowned poet and politician, Snorri Sturluson.
Hraunfossar - Known as “The Lava Waterfalls,” this is a series of smaller waterfalls flowing through lava formations.
Barnafoss - Located on the Hvítá river in Borgarfjörður, Hraunfossar flows from a lava field into Hvítá near Barnafoss, creating a breathtaking scene with waters originating from Langjokull Glacier.
Gerduberg basalt columns - Conclude the day at Gerðuberg, a cliff of dolerite, a coarse-grained basalt rock, on the western peninsula of Snæfellsnes. This natural wonder was formed by ancient lava cooling against seawater.
West Iceland Day 2
Vatnshellir Cave - Explore Vatnshellir Cave, an 8,000-year-old lava cave in Snaefellsnes National Park. An expert guide will explain its formation and history.
Djupalonssandur Beach - Stop for lunch in a charming village before heading to the stunning black pebble beach at Djúpalónssandur, surrounded by towering cliffs facing the Atlantic Ocean.
Kirkjufell Mountain - End the day with a visit to the picturesque Kirkjufell Mountain, offering breathtaking views.
The Golden Circle
Thingvellir National Park - Our first stop on the Golden Circle is Thingvellir, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its historical and geological significance. Discover the meeting point of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates and the site of the world’s longest-running parliament, the Althingi. Don’t miss the largest natural lake in Iceland, Thingvallavatn.
Strokkur - Journey inland to the geothermally active Haukadalur area, home to the original Geyser. While it erupts infrequently, its neighbor Strokkur erupts every 5 minutes, reaching heights of 20 to 40 meters.
Gullfoss Waterfall - Just a 5-minute drive from Geysir, Gullfoss Waterfall is located in the canyon of the Hvítá river in southwest Iceland. Traverse a narrow path for close-up views of this magnificent two-tiered waterfall.
Volcano Hekla - Enjoy views of the infamous volcano Hekla as we travel to our next destination, Seljalandsfoss Waterfall.
Seljalandsfoss - Situated along the Seljalandsá river, Seljalandsfoss plunges 40 meters over a cliff. Its unique shape allows visitors to walk behind the waterfall via a footpath at its base.
Skogafoss - Skógafoss is one of Iceland’s largest and most beautiful waterfalls, with a width of 25 meters and a 60-meter drop. The spray often creates rainbows when the sun shines.
Reynisfjara Beach - Reynisfjara is a renowned black-sand beach on Iceland’s South Coast, near the village of Vík. Marvel at the towering Renisdrangur basalt stacks and the powerful Atlantic waves. The day concludes with a Northern Lights hunt before heading to our hotel near Vík.
Ice Caving and Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon
Vatnajokull Glacier - Embark on a glacier adventure, exploring a natural ice cave in Vatnajokull Glacier. The 45-minute magical walk will reveal awe-inspiring features, and you’ll learn about the cave’s formation and its stunning blue color. Capture incredible photos during your hike.
Glacier Lagoon - Jökulsárlón is a glacial lagoon bordering Vatnajökull National Park in southeastern Iceland. Its serene blue waters are dotted with icebergs from the Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier. The lagoon flows into the Atlantic Ocean, leaving ice chunks on a black sand beach.
Fellsfjara - Known as the Diamond Beach, this black sand strip is part of the Breiðamerkursandur glacial plain, near Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. Icebergs from the lagoon wash ashore, creating a striking contrast against the black sand. It’s a favorite spot for photographers, nature lovers, and wildlife enthusiasts. Many seals inhabit this beach, and it’s an excellent location to spot orcas from the shore. If conditions are right, we’ll look for the Aurora Borealis before heading to our accommodation in Skaftafell.
The South Shore and Glacier Walk
Vatnajokull - After breakfast, our expert guide will choose the best route for your glacier hike. You’ll be equipped with all necessary glacier gear, some of which you used in the ice cave. The guide will share insights about the glacier beneath your feet. We’ll visit more South Coast highlights (time and daylight permitting) before returning to Reykjavik.
