This section of the Great Wall is situated in the northern Huairou district of Beijing. It is the only lakeside Great Wall in Beijing, located about 80km from the airport. It is a top destination for Great Wall hiking tours and serves as a camping base. As this part of the Great Wall is more authentic and lacks a cable car, visitors should be in good physical condition.

This journey takes you to the untamed sections of the Great Wall which are less renovated and not overrun by tourists. Immerse yourself in scenic views without fretting about missing your subsequent flight, because there are no time-costly transport services or ticket stands. You can explore this part of the Great Wall either early in the morning or late in the evening during daylight. This personal layover tour is tailored to your needs, providing an opportunity to hike on the original Great Wall with a lake beneath, free from the throng of tourists. If time allows, you can savor local food in a neighborhood eatery at a fair price (additional expense). Airport pick-up and drop-off services are provided.
Take note: To make these trips feasible, your layover period must be at least 9 hours or more (between flights).
- Wild Great Wall is very pretty and less touristy. We can park our car just below the Great Wall, then walk 5 mins to the Great Wall through Mountain path, very fast. But is a little bit steep to walk further up, so please make sure you are active.
- The tour last about 5 hours, plus the time(2 hours) to get out of airport and the time(2 hours) to catch flight, so it require at least 9 hours layover to make this tour happen.
