It is the only wooden bridge in town, featuring wooden railings, tiled roofs, and upturned eaves, providing shelter from the sun and rain. First built in the Qing Dynasty, it was rebuilt in 1996. Qing scholar Chen Jianglin wrote a poem titled “Tai’an Bridge in Evening View”:
“The sun sets, summer heat retreats,
A faint moonlight fills the pond.
Songs drift from the market streets,
Fishermen’s flutes echo east of the creek.
Palm fans sway away the lingering warmth,
Short summer robes catch the cool breeze.
In this tranquil evening, I wander alone,
The ancient temple connects to the bridge.”
- Handalong Pickles - The traditional entrance to the Handalong Sauce and Pickle Shop features large black calligraphy characters on white walls and an ornate gold-lettered sign above a red doorway. Zhujiajiao, China - Jul 25, 2019.
