CUSCO - PAUCARTAMBO - SAN PEDRO CLOUD FOREST - PILCOPATA

Humedal Lucre-Huacarpay - After being picked up from the hotel in Cusco at 6:00 am, the journey begins towards the Lucre wetland, where migratory birds can be observed. The trip continues with stunning views of the mountains and valleys of Cusco.

Chullpas de Ninamarca - This pre-Inca archaeological site features stone and mud tombs where the Quechua and Lupaca people placed their mummies. Although currently empty, the enclosures remain visible.

Paucartambo - Arriving around 10 am, visitors can explore the colonial-era streets and squares of Paucartambo, a quaint town seemingly untouched by time. The local markets offer a variety of fruits, vegetables, and foods.

Abra Acjanaco - The journey reaches the highest point at Manu National Park, where a guide provides insights into the diverse species inhabiting the Andean grasslands.

Manu National Park - After crossing the Acjanacu pass, the descent along the paved road leads to the Pacchayoq waterfalls. Various stops allow for birdwatching, including species like the cock-of-the-rock, golden-headed quetzal, and toucanets, as well as sightings of woolly monkeys, capuchins, and squirrel monkeys.

Pilcopata - By 5 pm, the first day’s accommodation is reached in the town of Pilcopata, featuring a tropical climate at 500 masl. The lodging offers double rooms with private bathrooms, and dinner is prepared by the cook.

HUMMINGBIRD GARDEN - ATAYALA PORT - MACHUWASI LAGOON - JUNGLE WALK

Manu National Park - After breakfast, the visit to the hummingbird garden showcases some of the 50 hummingbird species in Manu National Park. At 9:00 am, the journey continues to the river port of Atayala, where a motorboat awaits to transport guests to the second family lodge. Lunch is served at 12 pm, followed by a visit to Machuwasi Lake for a wooden raft ride. The afternoon includes a walk back to the Manu River and a boat crossing. A night walk, lasting about an hour, offers sightings of Amazonian wildlife such as frogs, scorpions, and tarantulas. Overnight stay at the lodge is accompanied by the sounds of crickets and cicadas.

RETURN TO CUSCO

Manu National Park - An early start allows for witnessing the parrot and macaw clay lick, where various parrots, parakeets, and macaws gather each morning. Afterward, breakfast is served at the hostel. At 8:00 am, the return journey by motorboat to the port of Atalaya begins, followed by a minivan pickup. The route ascends again towards the San Pedro cloud forest. Lunch is enjoyed at 1:00 pm in Paucartambo, with an estimated arrival in Cusco around 5:00 pm.

This tour is a short trip, but full of adventures and activities within the Amazon jungle. The Manu National Park is one of the few areas with high biodiversity that exists in the world. During the 3-day excursion you will be able to explore the cloud forests, the Amazon plain, where it is possible to observe various species of birds, butterflies, mammals, insects, orchids and many medicinal plants. If you have planned to visit Machu Picchu and would also like to visit the Amazon jungle, Manu is a great option since it is close to Cusco.
