- Khe Sanh Combat Base - The Siege began on January 21, 1968, when the North Vietnamese bombarded the base with over a thousand mortar rounds, rockets, and heavy artillery.
- Vinh Moc Tunnel - Constructed in three levels (12, 15, and 23 meters deep), the tunnels took thirteen months to complete. From 1966 to 1971, three hundred people lived intermittently in the tunnels. Sixty-two families called the tunnels home, and remarkably, seventeen babies were born and spent their early years underground.
Visiting other locations on Highways 1 and 9 to Vinh Moc and Khe Sanh:
Long Hung Church: This church in Quang Tri, Vietnam, endured eight consecutive days of bombings by South Vietnamese and American forces during the Vietnam War. The church remains untouched and is essentially as it was immediately after the bombings, which was a battlefield in 1972 between North and South Vietnam for 81 days and nights.
Doc Mieu Base: Little remains of this former American base except for a rusting tank and a sign. It was once part of the “eagle eyes of America” electronic monitoring fence.
- Hiền Lương Bridge - Ben Hai River – Hien Luong Bridge of DMZ: Vietnam’s Demilitarized Zone, or DMZ, is the area surrounding the former border between North and South Vietnam.
Cua Tung Beach: The beach features sparkling green water, silky sand, and is caressed by gentle breezes year-round. Relax and capture some beautiful photos here.
Rockpile: The Hill was a Marine outpost built atop a massive outcropping. Although inaccessible, it is a notable sight from the highway.
Dakrong Bridge & Ho Chi Minh Road: Located midway along Highway 9, it marks the starting point of Highway 15, a main branch of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, leading south to the A Shau valley.
- Quang Tri Province - DMZ Vietnam is the area surrounding the former border between North and South Vietnam. Historically, it was a narrow strip of land extending from Laos to the coast, five kilometers on either side of the Ben Hai River, approximately on the 17th parallel.
