- Hue Imperial City (The Citadel) - * Visitors must wear shirts with sleeves and pants that cover the knees when visiting the Hue Citadel.
Travel to Hue, located along the northern coast of Da Nang, and ascend to the top of Hai Van Pass, where remnants of war bunkers can be explored. Upon reaching Hue, the tour will include a visit to the Citadel, the city’s main attraction, featuring the Imperial City, the Forbidden Purple City, and the Emperor’s Private Residence. Constructed between 1804 and 1833 during the Nguyen dynasty, the last feudal kingdom in Vietnam, the Imperial City is safeguarded by fortified walls stretching 2 kilometers and encircled by a moat. Within the citadel, visitors can explore various structures such as the Imperial City gates, the Purple Forbidden City, temples, worship sites, pavilions, and gardens.
After the morning activities, there will be a short lunch break, followed by a boat trip on the Perfume River, including a stop at Thien Mu Pagoda. Often regarded as the unofficial symbol of Hue, Thien Mu is an active Buddhist monastery with roots dating back to 1601. A notable exhibit is a car belonging to a former monk who, in 1963, drove to Saigon and self-immolated in protest against the South Vietnamese regime’s harsh treatment of Buddhist monks and followers. The tour will then proceed to the tranquil Khai Dinh Royal Tomb, designed to harmonize with its natural surroundings and constructed according to feng-shui principles.
