In April 1908, the people of Thua Thien Hue protested for tax reduction. The protest began on April 9, 1908, and peaked on April 11, 1908, when farmers from six districts gathered to surround the Nunciature Palace to voice their demands. President Ho Chi Minh, then a student, along with other Quoc Hoc students, joined the anti-tax protest group; “Uncle Ho” used his French knowledge to assist as an interpreter.

The Nunciature Palace no longer exists today, having been completely destroyed in 1945. To commemorate this site, which witnessed President Ho Chi Minh’s first patriotic actions, the Ho Chi Minh Thua Thien Hue Museum erected a symbol of Nguyen Tat Thanh (President Ho Chi Minh) participating in the anti-tax movement in 1908.

The bridge was heavily bombed and destroyed multiple times, cutting off access across the Perfume River and marking some of the fiercest battles in the city. Today, as you walk across it, the bridge stands not only as a vital link for the city but also as a reminder of Huế’s resilience and recovery after the war.
• Nine Holy Cannons - Nine cannons cast by Hue artisans in Gia Long’s second year (1803). These cannons are considered one of the most valuable bronze artworks. The ancient nine cannons were originally placed at the foot of the Imperial Citadel, at the entrance of the Ngo Mon Gate – the imperial city of Hue. During King Khai Dinh’s reign, they were relocated to their current position.
