- Jelsa - In the charming coastal town of Jelsa, known for its rich wine-making heritage, the Tomić family nurtures native grape varieties while also exploring new ones. Be sure to try Prošek, the authentic Dalmatian wine crafted from the finest local grapes. Additionally, in Jelsa, experience the unique “2718 hours in the bottle”. These are young and ambitious “wine newcomers” who, despite having no vineyards or only small plots, believe that wine production based on grapes bought from other farmers cannot match the quality of those from one’s own vineyard. In Croatia, Dubokovic wines have become a staple in top-tier restaurants, hotels, and specialty wine shops.
Moreover, the Carić family in Vrboska has been connected to vineyards for as long as they can remember. However, it wasn’t until Vino Hvar was founded that they began producing their own “Carič wines”. The family owns 5 hectares of vineyards in a specially designated wine-growing area known as “Vinogorje Hvar.”
Three wineries will be selected from the five listed above, based on their availability. Feel free to suggest your preferred wineries, and every effort will be made to accommodate your choices.
-
Vrisnik - In the village of Vrisnik, meet Jo Ahearne, the only female winemaker. She relocated to the island from Great Britain a few years ago and is an academically trained winemaker and the first Master of Wine producing in Croatia. Her expertise, combined with the indigenous grapes from the islands of Hvar and Korčula, creates a perfect blend in every bottle. Each sip reveals the passion for grapes and the sophisticated flavor of the wine.
-
Vrbanj - In Vrbanj, the largest village on the island, the Plančić family has been producing wine since 1919, blending tradition with modern oenological advancements. Each glass reflects the love for grapes, the authenticity of the ecologically protected area, and the harmony of the indigenous yet bold wine producers.
