- Charminar - Constructed by Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah in 1591, Charminar is a square-shaped structure with four pillars and intricate carvings, reportedly built in honor of his wife, Bhagmati. However, the true reason for its construction remains unclear.
A popular belief suggests Charminar was erected to commemorate the end of a plague that severely affected the city. It is said the Sultan prayed for the plague’s end, and upon its conclusion, he built Charminar as a tribute to Allah. The four pillars are also believed to be dedicated to the first four caliphs of Islam.
Another theory is that it was built in memory of Prophet Muhammad’s son-in-law, who perished at the Battle of Karbala, as its design resembles Shiya Tazias. Some also believe the location marks where the Sultan first saw his future wife, Bhagmati.

- Salarjung Museum - Located on the southern banks of the Musi River, the Salarjung Museum is distinguished as the third-largest museum in India, famed for its extensive one-man collection of antiques. It is celebrated in India for its valuable collections from various civilizations. Nawab Mir Yousuf Ali Khan Salar Jung III, the former Prime Minister of the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad, devoted most of his income over thirty-five years to amass these priceless collections, which historians attribute to his deep passion.
The collections left in his ancestral Diwan Deodi palace were initially displayed as a private museum, inaugurated by then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru in 1951. In 1968, the museum was relocated to its current site at Afzalgunj. The esteemed museum is now managed by a Board of Trustees, including the Governor of Telangana as an ex-officio chairperson, as per the Salar Jung Museum Act of 1961.
- Birla Mandir - Birla Mandir is situated at the southern end of Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad, atop the Kala Pahad, a twin hillock of Naubat Pahad. Constructed by the Birlas in 1976 with white marble imported from Rajasthan, the temple stands on a 280-foot high hillock on a 13-acre plot.
The construction took nearly a decade to complete and was consecrated in the same year by Swami Ranganathananda of the Ramakrishna Mission. The Birla Foundation, known for building similar temples across the country, is the patron of Birla Mandir in Hyderabad.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, represented as Sri Venkateswara. The kirtanas of Tyagaraja, Annamayya, and Ramadasu resonate against the backdrop of a blue sky in the morning. The temple blends the architectural styles of Utkal (Oriya) and South Indian styles. The Rajagopuram reflects South Indian architecture, while the tower over the main shrine.
- Hussain Sagar Lake - Just 2km from the city center, Hussain Sagar is a top tourist attraction in Hyderabad. The lake connects Secunderabad and Hyderabad. As the largest artificial lake in Asia, Hussain Sagar was excavated in 1562 AD during Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah’s reign. Built on a tributary of the River Musi, it is named after Hussain Shah Wali. Initially constructed for irrigation and water needs, it served this purpose until 1930.
Bordered by Indira Park to the east, Sanjeevaiah Park to the north, and Lumbini Park to the south, the lake offers a rare setting in the heart of a city. A bund on its banks controls water flow. This artificial lake now enhances the city’s beauty and is also known for its historical significance.
