It ranks as the second tallest sitting statue globally. The trust initiated the statue’s construction to honor the 1,000th birth anniversary of Ramanuja. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹1,000 crore (US$110 million), was primarily funded through donations from devotees.

The Birla Foundation, responsible for building several similar temples across India, constructed this temple, all of which are known as Birla Mandir.
