A nice welcome to Iceland - The Flybus experience was an easy transition to get from the airport to Reykjavik. It was approximately 45 minutes. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend using them especially after an overnight flight.

Buses and Blizzards - Our Iceland adventure didn’t exactly kick off on the best foot. Our flight was delayed (because, of course, blizzard conditions), and we landed at the airport only to find out that the only bus to the Blue Lagoon left at 7:30 AM. We missed that one by a mile. Long story short, we had to take a taxi to the Blue Lagoon, and that little detour cost us $88 USD. Not the start we were hoping for, but hey, at least we got there, right? Once we got over the sticker shock, the rest of the trip was much smoother. The buses around Reykjavik were super easy to navigate, and we never had to wait long. It was as if the transfer buses had a sixth sense and were always there, waiting for us when we arrived. The highlight of the whole tour was definitely our driver, Thor. Yes, you read that right — Thor. Not the hammer-wielding god (unfortunately), but this guy was awesome. He made the Golden Circle tour way more than just geysers and waterfalls. We learned about Icelandic trolls, Christmas traditions, and even some fun facts about the language. It was like a mini history lesson with a side of stand-up comedy. Thor seriously made the whole thing worth it. Now, a quick note about the Golden Circle... the bus was toasty. Like, sauna-level hot. If we had cracked a window, we might’ve accidentally ended up in the middle of a volcanic eruption. It was warm, to say the least, and most of the bus passengers were melting in their seats. Still, we all powered through it to see some amazing sights. As for the Blue Lagoon... well, it’s iconic, but maybe a little overrated? Don’t get me wrong, the water was incredible, but it was busy. The food choices were limited, the crowds were large, and it felt like the waiting for transfers took longer than the actual experience. But if you’re into checking off bucket-list places, it’s worth a visit, just maybe not if you’re looking for peace and quiet. I am glad that was our first stop in Iceland, because everything else was well worth the price. The trip overall was perfect for a girls’ getaway, and I’m already dreaming of coming back in the spring. When I checked my credit card after the trip, I was pleasantly surprised at how much less I’d spent than I expected. Always a win! If I could change one thing, it’d be for FlyBus to include a return trip to the airport at the end. It wasn’t a huge deal, but after a full day of touring, the last thing I wanted was to figure out how to get my own ride back to the airport. It wasn’t hard, just a little annoying when you’re gearing up for your flight home. All in all, would I do it again? Definitely. Just make sure your flight’s on time and maybe pack a bit more patience for the Blue Lagoon crowds!
