Fez - Ifrane - Midelt - Merzouga
Fez - Starting from Fez, the journey begins with an ascent into the Atlas Mountains.
Ifrane - The route passes through Ifrane, a winter ski resort designed in an uncharacteristically non-Moroccan style by the French in the 1930s to mimic a Swiss village. Visit the cedar forest in Azrou and observe the monkeys in the trees.
Midelt - The day will largely be spent navigating through stunning forests, springs, rugged rock formations, and Berber villages as the journey crosses the Atlas Mountains and begins the descent towards the Sahara Desert. Midway, there will be a stop for lunch in Midelt, a town renowned for its fossils and rocks, before continuing towards Merzouga.
Merzouga - Arrival in Merzouga is expected in the afternoon around 5 pm, where a guide and camels will be ready. After a brief rest, embark on a camel trek across the sandy dunes of Erg Chebbi. Enjoy the desert scenery and sunset from camelback, and after two hours, arrive at the desert camp to spend the night in a Berber tent. At the desert camp, camels are tethered, and mint tea is served. After dinner, enjoy stargazing. Overnight stay in the tent.
Merzouga back to Fez or Marrakech
Merzouga - In the morning, rise early to walk over the sand dunes and witness the sunrise from just beyond the Algerian border, approximately 31 miles (50 km) from Merzouga.
Fez - Then, take a 4x4 back to Rissani to switch to a minivan. The journey continues on the road to Fez, with stops for rest and lunch along the way. Arrival in Fez is expected in the late afternoon or evening.
