Journey from Marrakech to Imlil Valley in the Atlas Mountains at 1800m

Imlil - Day 1: Marrakech to Imlil (L, D)
Depart from Marrakech by car at around 8am for a 90-minute drive heading south through the Moulay Brahim Gorges, reaching Agersioual (1,600m), located in the upper foothills of the western High Atlas Mountains. Here, you will leave the vehicle and meet your local guide before embarking on a 7.5-mile (12km) trek east to the Berber village of AIkkiss.

Enjoy lunch in a Berber home or by the river, then continue up the Imnane Valley and cross the Tizi n’Tamtert pass (2779m). From this vantage point, you can see both the Imlil and Imnane valleys. A further 1.5-hour hike will lead you to the village of Imlil, where you will have dinner at a delightful guest house (Chez les Berberes, or similar) and spend the night.

Imlil to Dades Valley

Dades Gorges - Day 2: Imlil to Dades Valley (B, D)
You will be collected from your accommodation in Imlil at 9:00am and travel over the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the breathtaking Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass. As you journey, you will pass through several Berber villages and, upon reaching the desert, you will see riverside oases and barren hillsides dotted with kasbahs (fortified homes for families and their livestock). Along the way, you can choose to take a break or visit the Ouarzazate Film Studios.

A detour to Ait Benhaddou is available. This ancient fortified city, filled with numerous kasbahs, has served as the backdrop for many Hollywood films (The Mummy, Gladiator, Alexander, Lawrence of Arabia, and more). You will have the opportunity to explore the buildings with your guide. Upon arrival at Dades Gorge, you can opt for a hike or relax at your hotel. Overnight stay in Dades.

Dades Valley to Tinghire to Merzouga

Merzouga - Day 3: Dades Valley to Todra Gorge to Merzouga (B, D)
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from the Dades Valley to Todra Gorge, a significant fault dividing the High Atlas Mountains, rising nearly 1000 feet (300 m) in a narrow valley with date palm groves and Berber villages. Here, you can hike to explore the palmery, a lush oasis filled with large date palms.

After lunch, continue deeper into the desert to the gateway town of Merzouga to gather supplies for your desert adventure. Proceed to a kasbah to collect your camel. At sunset, embark on a 1.5-hour camel ride to a Berber camp, where you will savor a traditional Moroccan dinner and sleep under the stars or in tents at a desert camp. (Total driving time: 5 hours)

Merzouga to Ouarzazate to Marrakech

Marrakech - Day 4: Merzouga to Marrakech (B)
Rise early for a 1.5-hour camel ride just before sunrise to further explore the area. Return to Merzouga on your camel. Upon arrival, enjoy breakfast and take the opportunity to shower, then commence your journey through the rocky desert and over the Atlas Mountains back to Marrakech.
