This village is home to Goa’s largest and most stunning temple. Originally built in the 16th century, the temple has undergone several renovations. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple complex features a striking seven-story decorative lamp tower at its entrance.
The next destination is the 18th-century Shanta Durga temple, nestled at the base of lush green mountains. This temple boasts a unique architectural style, with a pyramidal shape that sets it apart from most Hindu temples. The stained glass panes in the Roman arched windows are also distinctive.
- Tropical Spice Plantation - Following the temple visit, guests will drive to a spice plantation to enjoy a Goan lunch (beverages not included). After lunch, there will be time to explore the plantation and its butterfly garden. The area is home to over 75 species of birds.
- Basilica of Bom Jesus - The next stop is the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was completed in 1605 and is one of India’s finest examples of baroque architecture. The Basilica houses the mortal remains of Saint Francis Xavier, who introduced Christianity to Goa.
Also located in Old Goa is the magnificent 16th-century Se Cathedral, the largest church in Asia. The building features Portuguese-Gothic architecture with a Tuscan exterior and a Corinthian interior.
- Church of St. Francis of Assissi - The final stop on the itinerary is the Church of St. Francis of Assisi. Constructed in 1661, the church’s architecture is a blend of Tuscan, Baroque, and Corinthian styles. The walls are adorned with paintings depicting events from the life of St. Francis.
At the conclusion of the tour, guests will be returned to Mormugao Port or their hotel.
