The highlight of the tour is undoubtedly the magnificent Askja Caldera in the Dyngjufjoll Mountains. This 50 km² subsidence cauldron was formed when an eruption caused the central volcano’s magma chamber roof to collapse. The caldera houses the Víti crater, where swimming is occasionally possible during the summer months.
