Day 1: Iquitos – Bethlehem Market – Amazon Yanayacu Lodge
Iquitos - Guests are picked up from their hotel or the airport to begin the day with a city tour of Iquitos. The tour includes visits to the Plaza de Armas, the Malecón de Tarapacá, and historic sites like the Casa de Fierro. The journey continues to the renowned Bethlehem Market, showcasing exotic meats, tropical fruits, natural remedies, and traditional aphrodisiac beverages. From Bellavista port, the adventure proceeds along the Nanay River to the confluence with the Itaya and Amazon rivers, where pink and gray dolphins are often seen. A visit to the Chullachaki Ecomuseum offers insights into medicinal plants and local culture. The tour then moves to Fundo Don Pedrito to encounter paiches, piranhas, and alligators. The journey continues to the San Juan de Huashalado community and along the Yanayacu River to the Amazon Yanayacu Lodge. In the afternoon, guests enjoy a canoe ride at sunset, followed by dinner and relaxation in the heart of the jungle.
Day 2: Ethnobotanical Hike – Piranha Fishing – Night Hike and Optional Camping
Iquitos Amazon Region - At 5:00 AM, guests embark on a canoe trip down the Yanayacu River to experience the Amazonian sunrise and observe birds in their natural habitat. After breakfast at 7:30 AM, an ethnobotanical walk through the flooded forest reveals giant trees like ceibas and kapoks, along with their medicinal uses. The walk also offers opportunities to spot monkeys, sloths, and other wildlife. After lunch at 2:00 PM, there is time to relax at the lodge before heading out to fish for piranhas on the Yanayacu River at 3:30 PM. At 5:30 PM, a night hike through the jungle provides a chance to see insects, tarantulas, and other hidden creatures. Dinner is served at the lodge, or, weather permitting, guests can enjoy a unique camping experience in the jungle (May–October), sharing local legends around a campfire under the stars.
Day 3: Monkey Island – Yagua Community – Amazon River – Return to Iquitos
Iquitos - At 7:00 AM, following breakfast, guests visit Monkey Island, a rescue center where they can interact with rescued primates. The tour then returns to the lodge and proceeds to the Yagua indigenous community, where guests can learn about their traditions, dances, and crafts. As a special conclusion to the trip, guests have the opportunity to take a final swim in the Amazon River. After lunch at 2:00 PM, the journey back to Iquitos begins, with arrival in the city scheduled for 5:00 PM. Transfers to the hotel or airport are included, marking an unforgettable end to this adventure in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest.
