- Inisheer - Inis Oirr (Inisheer), the smallest of the islands, is renowned for its unique charm. This Aran island is situated near the Burren, known for its remarkable natural features, including a vibrant mix of colors and the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher, visible in all their panoramic glory. The island exudes the authentic atmosphere of a traditional isolated fishing village. From the pier, one is greeted by a pristine white sandy beach facing clear turquoise waters, with numerous fishing boats, nets, and fishermen returning at the end of the day with their catch.
- O’Brien’s Castle - Caisleán Uí Bhriain (O’Brien’s Castle) was constructed in the 14th century within an ancient Ringfort called Dún Formna, believed to date back to 400 BC.
In addition to offering fantastic views of the island, there is a stunning vista from the Cliffs of Moher, sweeping left to the Burren, across Galway Bay to the 12 Pins of Connemara, and out west to Inis Meáin and Inis Mór.
- Plassey Wreck - MV Plassy, or Plassey, originally built as a trawler, was converted into a cargo vessel in 1947. Acquired by the Limerick Steamship Company in 1951 and renamed Plassy, she encountered a severe storm on 8 March 1960 while navigating the sound between Inis Oírr (Inisheer) and the coast of County Clare, carrying general cargo. She ran aground on Finnis Rock, just off the east coast of Inis Oírr. A young local boy noticed the ship in distress and alerted the islanders. The crew of the Plassy was rescued by the Inisheer Rocket Group using a Breeches Buoy.
- Inisheer Lighthouse - The Teach Solais (Lighthouse) on Inis Oírr was constructed in the mid-19th century following a request by the Galway Harbour Commissioners. The request was approved by the Corporation of Trinity House in London, which was responsible for maritime safety at the time. It became operational in 1857.
The Lighthouse is positioned at 53°02.797’ North 09°31.613’ West and stands 34 meters tall. The tower and associated dwellings were built using local limestone. The Lighthouse was automated in 1978, converted to electricity with a mercury vapor lamp as the light source in the 1913 optic, and is monitored by radio link.
