- Ise Jingu - The Inner Shrine (内宮, Naikū) is one of the two principal shrines that form the Ise Shrines in Ise City. Officially named Kotai Jingu, the Inner Shrine is dedicated to Shinto’s most revered deity, the Sun Goddess (Amaterasu Omikami), and is regarded as Japan’s most sacred shrine.
The Inner Shrine is believed to have been founded over 2000 years ago. Its main structures resemble ancient rice granaries and are constructed in an architectural style that shows minimal influence from the Asian mainland, as they were built before the introduction of Buddhism. Both the Inner and Outer Shrines are reconstructed from the ground up every 20 years. The 62nd reconstruction was completed in 2013, and the 63rd is scheduled for 2033.
- Okage Yokocho - Oharaimachi (おはらい町) serves as the traditional approach to the Inner Shrine of Ise. Stretching nearly one kilometer, it is lined with many traditional-style buildings that house shops and restaurants. Some of these establishments have been serving pilgrims and tourists for several centuries.
- Mikimoto Pearl Island - The Mikimoto Pearl Island (ミキモト真珠島, Mikimoto Shinjujima) is an outstanding museum dedicated to pearls, pearl cultivation, and Mikimoto Kokichi, the pioneer who first succeeded in cultivating pearls. The island is situated in the Bay of Toba and is accessible via a bridge.
Mikimoto Kokichi was born in Toba in 1858 and became the first person to successfully cultivate pearls in 1893. He opened the first Mikimoto Pearl Store in 1899. The Mikimoto Kokichi Memorial Hall shares his life story. Also located on the island, the Pearl Museum offers detailed explanations about pearls and pearl cultivation in both Japanese and English. In the nearby Pearl Plaza, visitors can view and purchase a wide range of pearl jewelry.
- Meotodaki Falls - Meoto Iwa (夫婦岩, the Wedded Rocks) are two sacred rocks in the ocean near Futami, a small town in Ise City. The larger rock symbolizes the husband, while the smaller one represents the wife. Both rocks are linked by a shimenawa rope, which serves as the boundary between the spiritual and earthly realms. The shimenawa rope is ceremonially replaced three times a year.
