ARRIVAL DAY IN ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN

Islamabad International Airport - Most international flights land at Islamabad International Airport in the morning. The guide will warmly welcome you at the airport and then transfer you to the hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax and recover from your journey. Later, once everyone has arrived, there will be a group briefing about the trek. Depending on the available time, there might be an opportunity to explore Islamabad, a city purpose-built in 1961 as the new capital of Pakistan.

SPECTACULAR DRIVE TO SKARDU

Nanga Parbat - Today, the journey continues on the Karakoram Highway to Chilas, covering 461 km from Islamabad to Chilas, which takes about 8-9 hours. An overnight stay in Chilas is optional before proceeding to Skardu the next day.

The drive offers breathtaking views of the Himalaya and Karakoram mountain ranges. Upon arrival in Skardu, check into the hotel. The rest of the day can be spent visiting local bazaars, historical forts, scenic lakes, or exploring ancient rock inscriptions, including the 8th-century Manthal Lord Buddha Rock, which reflects the influence of Buddhist monks and pilgrims in the area before Islam.

SIGHTSEEING & PREPARATION DAY, SKARDU:

Skardu Tour - In the morning, a briefing will be held at the Ministry of Tourism Pakistan office. Afterward, there will be free time to meet the porters, chef, high-altitude porter, and drivers. Depending on the remaining time, a visit to the remains of Kharpocho Fort, built in the early 1700s, is recommended. The fort offers a stunning view of the Indus River and is a perfect spot for photography, especially at sunrise or sunset. A visit to the Organic Village, which grows all its crops organically, is also an option. The afternoon is free for exploration.

Skardu International Airport - If the weather is favorable, a flight to Islamabad will be taken. Skardu airport is a 40-minute drive from the hotel along a scenic road lined with poplar trees. The flight offers an exciting view out of the valley, passing by Nanga Parbat before heading south to Islamabad. Arriving in the bustling Pakistani capital after time in the mountains can be an adjustment, especially with the traffic. A private bus will be ready at the airport to transfer the group to the hotel. Once settled, lunch will be served unless there are unusual flight delays. The rest of the day is free for independent sightseeing or relaxation at the hotel. The guide will provide advice on sightseeing options. Shopping for handmade Iranian and Afghan rugs is a popular choice. In the evening, the group will gather for a celebratory meal at the hotel or a local restaurant.

In case of flight cancellation, the journey will continue down the Karakoram Highway, arriving in Chilas late afternoon.

CONTINGENCY DAY IN CASE OF DELAYS, ISLAMABAD

Karakoram Highway - If traveling down the Karakoram Highway, arrival in Islamabad will be in the late afternoon. The drive along the Indus River to Islamabad takes two days, making this contingency day essential. An overnight stay in Chilas is an option.
