- Golden Horn - This stunning strait, sometimes referred to as Bosporus or Bosphorus, has been known by this name since ancient times. It is linked to the myth of Io, the lover of Jupiter, who crossed it in the form of a cow. Similar to the Dardanelles in length, width, and current, it serves as a narrow divide between Europe and Asia, yet it possesses unique characteristics. Unlike a solitary stream bordered by deserted shores, it is a vibrant waterway, bustling with life, meandering through banks adorned with palaces and villages, shaded by magnificent trees, offering a new scene of lively activity at every turn.
- Galata Tower - Known as Christea Turris by the Genoese, the Galata Tower is a medieval stone structure located in the Galata/Karaköy district of Istanbul, Turkey, just north of where the Golden Horn meets the Bosphorus.
- Dolmabahce Palace - Situated on the European side of the Bosphorus, Dolmabahce Palace, with its various dependencies, forms a small town, with gardens stretching over a mile along the waterfront.
- Ortakoy - The Ortaköy Mosque, officially the Büyük Mecidiye Camii, is located in Beşiktaş, Istanbul, Turkey, at the waterside of the Ortaköy pier square, a popular spot on the Bosphorus.
- Bosphorus Bridge - Opened on October 29, 1973, marking the 50th anniversary of the Turkish Republic, this suspension bridge boasts the longest span in Europe and the fourth longest in the world. It measures 1560 meters (1706 yards) in total length and 33.4 meters (110 feet) in width.
- Bebek Park - In the 19th century, Ottoman aristocrats chose Bebek’s prime location for their summer residences and palaces. Today, it remains a sought-after residential area.
- Rumeli Fortress - RUMELIHISARI FORTRESS - (RUMELIHISARI CASTLE) Located at the narrowest point of the Bosphorus, the Rumelihisari Fortress was constructed by Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror on the European shore. The Sultan himself laid the foundation stone on March 26, 1452, intending to control ship passage through the Bosphorus and use it as a base for his assault on the city.
- Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge - Also known as the Second Bosphorus Bridge, the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge spans the Bosphorus strait in Istanbul, Turkey. Upon its completion in 1988, it was the world’s 5th-longest suspension bridge span; today, it ranks 24th.
- Anadolu Hisari Fort - On the opposite bank lies the Anadoluhisari Fortress by the Göksu stream. This enchanting castle, gracing the Asiatic shore of the Bosphorus, was built in 1395 by Sultan Bayazit, the Thunderbolt, and named “Güzelcehisar.” It was later expanded by Mehmet the Conqueror. As the first Turkish possession on the Bosphorus, it stands as a symbol of Turkish sovereignty.
- Beylerbeyi Palace - BEYLERBEYI PALACE Located on the Asiatic side of the Bosphorus between Kuzguncuk and Cengelköy, the palace was constructed by Sultan Abdülaziz in 1865. Viewed from the Bosphorus, Beylerbeyi Palace appears as a white vision from a fairy tale. It is the most lavish royal residence of the 19th century, with millions spent on its construction.
- KIz Kulesi - KIZKULESI (MAIDEN’S TOWER - LEANDER’S TOWER) Situated about 180 meters from the shores of Üsküdar, this tower is known by two names. Europeans who called it Leander’s Tower believed it was where Leander drowned while attempting to swim the Bosphorus to reach his beloved Hero, the priestess of Aphrodite. However, Leander never crossed here, even in the legend, which actually refers to the Hellespont, Dardanelles.
