• Rumeli Fortress - Rumelihisarı (also known as Rumelian Castle) is a medieval fortress located in Istanbul, Turkey, on a series of hills on the European banks of the Bosphorus.

Built between 1451 and 1452 under the orders of Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II, the fortress was constructed in preparation for an Ottoman siege on the then-Byzantine city of Constantinople, aiming to block maritime military and logistical support that might reach the Byzantines via the Bosphorus Strait.
